Ghost Hunting

I'm getting really into the idea of ghost hunting, the topic fastinates me...

Anyway, would any of you stay a night in a place which was said to be haunted? Would you stay well away from any spooky places or are you the type to actively seek them?

One place I'd LOVE to visit is the island of Poveglia just off the coast of Venice. Look it up on google if you're into that kind of thing

I don't believe in ghosts, so would have no problem staying anywhere!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 03/04/2008 15:08

You don't believe in them? But methinks you are the Queen of Ghosts, Hecate!

Ah, thanks for that lulu, I must have missed the last instalment in your ghost saga somehow

I think the reason my friend feels the converted asylum near us is haunted is because she is vividly imagining the torture the patients would have undergone as treatment....

I am still intrigued and want to find out more...

expatinscotland · 03/04/2008 18:20

i can't say i'd ever buy a home in a converted school, asylum or hospital, tbh.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 03/04/2008 18:26

Scares me, don't think I could ever knowingly buy a haunted house. A friend lives in one and I get scared just listening to her stories and seeing the photos and videos of the orbs dancing around.

I once had to go and reset a pump at a pumping station in the grounds of an old, deserted lunatic asylum - by myself at 2:00am. It was in the middle of nowhere and I was so scared - I had to walk (run) from my van down a long driveway. I nearly wet myself.

lol calif!

JodieG1 · 03/04/2008 20:30

Stripey how did you manage to do that? I don't think I'd be able to! I'd be so scared and my mind would play tricks on me even if there was nothing there I'm sure.

hippipotami · 03/04/2008 20:46

Don't know about school expat, that should be allright shouldn't it? But definately not hospital, asylum or prison....

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 04/04/2008 18:12

I had to do it - I was on call that night and it was my job. I've never been so scared.

expatinscotland · 05/04/2008 00:06

No, I don't like former schools, too.

Too much energy.

hippipotami · 05/04/2008 15:20

So the ghostly-ness stems from any sort of energy? Not just from 'bad' energy such as torture, asylums, death etc?

Because I think of schools as happy places, lots of laughing children singing songs etc

The old farm next door but oneto us is supposedly haunted.Apparently whatever is in there is so bad that people have run out into the street screaming during the night.A guy I used to know lived there for a while & something happened to him there that scared him so much, that he refused to talk about it.H,e was a tough guy too, banned from the local pubs, worked on the roads, not a sensitive little flower. The farm is empty now & I can see it from my house-I'd love to know what haunts it,but no way would I stay the night there.

There is a ghost of a lady who walks through the churchyard too.I didn't know about her until recently & I've been in the church & churchyard with the dd's in the pitch black before loads of times. The lights for the church are the opposite end to the vestry door,so I have to leave the dd's by the door, with instructions not to move, put out the lights & walk the length of the church towards them in the dark.As we live in the country,it is so dark, you can't see your hand in front of your face.I have got to go there at 7.30pm on Wednesday,so I might take a torch this time.Loads of people I know have seen this ghost & I'm not scared of seeing her, just don't want to for some reason.

hippipotami · 06/04/2008 21:43

Oh FG, you are a braver woman than I am - walking the length of the church in the dark.... shudder....

I would love to know what went on at that Farm, but I agree there is no way I would ever spend a night there...
Does the farm have a name, can you google it and see if you can come up with any history for it??

FuriousGeorge · 07/04/2008 12:39

hippipotami,I'm full of curiosity about the farm,I've googled it,but nothing comes up.My next door neighbour grew up at the farm, but her brother died tragically whilst they lived there & the family left due to financial problems,so it would be insensitive of me to ask her.I may aske her about the churcgyard ghost though,as one of the people who saw it was a friend of hers.

Dh is a total sceptic & wants to stay in the house overnight,to raise money for charity.I know the owner & he probably wouldn't mind, but no way will I let dh do it.He may bring something back with him.......

Anyway, hopefully, this link will work & you can see the path through the churchyard. www.meltononline.co.uk/pp/location/detail.asp?id=126The village itself has loads of gory history,I'm rubbish at links but if you google Ashby Folville gang,a Radio 4 link comes up.There were some bloody goings on here in the past.

hippipotami · 07/04/2008 12:47

Yup, that looks spooky, even in the daytime

No, don't ask your neighbour for her.

Mmm, I would be very tempted to let dh sleep in the farm for charity. He could investigate it on your behalf, sort of ghost hunting by proxy
