Moving to Truro from London - advice please!

Hi,
My mum, dad and I are thinking of moving to Truro. My parents are coming up to retirement age and would like to be closer to the coast. Our budget is around £450k. Would you recommend the area? Would be great to be near a hospital.

It's a pretty town (city) but not many decent shops and I tend to avoid it now because so many new houses have been built and traffic lights.

What about coast that’s not so far from London? Kent or Norfolk coasts?

It's a lot nicer than Paignton (your other thread).

Sorry that wasn't clear about the new houses, it's the amount of traffic on the road through Truro now which don't like.

Why specifically Truro? It’s not the greatest town, fine for some things (not going to say shopping if you’re moving from London). There are plenty of lovely places you could live in Cornwall which wouldn’t be too far and might be a bit more coastal (Truro is more of a river town).

My parents would like to be more southwest

Truro is ok- as a small city it has everything you need, including the county hospital and it makes reaching the rest of Cornwall easier. Your parents may want to look at areas like Kenwyn, Redannick, by the river at Malpas or nearer the hospital at Gloweth. It's maybe a bit friendlier out in the villages nearby eg Carnon Downs.

Personally I like Falmouth more (c 8 miles away) but maybe more importantly if they have family in the rest of the country Cornwall is a very long way...
