Not necessary (in most cases) and generally a great money maker for insurers - which is why they make it easy (and relatively cheap) for you to add. For them it helps offset the losses on the car insurance...

Most people will never use, and never need to use, their motor legal protection insurance.

Like all insurances, it is a waste of money until you need it! Don't buy legal protection as an add on to your policy. You can buy it as a stand alone policy which will cover you for any vehicle and will be only half the cost. My policy also covers my DH as well, saving even more.☺️
