Hi all
I'm a student nurse and should be finishing my degree in next few months (hopefully), as title suggests we (myself, hubby and 3 kids) currently live in London but after a hellish few years are thinking of moving area for a fresh start - Sheffield is current favourite atm due to hubby having friends in area and was just wondering if anyone had done the move before and how they found the change? or anyone currently live in Sheffield who could offer insight as to what to expect? (we are planning on visiting before making final plans but I'm a planner and like to have as much foreknowledge as possible lol) Thanks

I live in Sheffield. We have lived here since 1996 though only moved from a town not too far away.

Do you have any plans at present?
Jobs?
Housing?
Any areas you are thinking of living in?
Schools? What ages/year groups?
Budgets for accommodation?

Hi thanks for reply,
Hubby work in retail and will be looking at similar work, I am in process of applying for a job with Sheffield Teaching Hospital Trust for newly qualified nurses which I'll be if/when we make the move

We are looking at renting and looking at market atm prob around 1000-1500pcm

Our children are 16,13 and 11 (finishing years 11, 9 and 6) - they are the main concern with sorting schooling etc

Area we are not sure yet which is making it harder to make plans - any areas you'd recommend? or any to avoid?

Thank you

The area will depend on budget, which varies quite widely in Sheffield.

We live in S10 which we really like. Good schools, good area, though can be pricey in places. A number of our neighbours are medics and work in the Sheffield trust hospitals, or in chesterfield and Barnsley hospitals.

I work in S11. Lots of the parents of our children work in the hospitals. Again generally a good area but house prices can be pricey in places.

In Sheffield the most desirable areas, with the higher attaining schools, are generally (not necessarily exclusively, in the south west though these can be the dearer areas too.

Hi, I just came across your post and wondering how you guys doing? Have you moved yet? Have you manage to get the schools/house/work sorted ? I'm a single mum of 2 boys (13 &10yo) and will be relocating from London to Sheffield in the next few weeks. I dont have a moving date yet but I'm already in process of looking for suitable house and good schools for my boys. It's a big life changing move for us and I'm sort of freaking out a bit 😉🤣
