Apparently it's nonsense being put about by traders who want to buy their shares cheaply when they take a tumble.

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 19/03/2008 21:25

Yeah I can get in but none of my information is available at this time!

marina · 19/03/2008 21:25

Which were then splatted all over the "reliable" Evening Standard front pages
It's Chinese whispers, don't worry

IdrisTheDragon · 19/03/2008 21:29

I can't get in either. Wonder if you can by telephone .

No1ErmaBombeckfan · 19/03/2008 21:32

Perhaps a cautionary measure taken by Halifax... try again tomorrow

It's all rumours, not true at all.

Piffle · 19/03/2008 21:35

I am not suprised they have pulled online banking. Imagine the folks trying to transfer the cash tonight. It could well createcan issue.

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 19/03/2008 21:41

Well they should let me access it my £200 aint gonna hurt anyone.

B1977 · 19/03/2008 21:43

(a) it's wankery traders pulling a fast one

(b) your money is covered by the government anyway so no need to worry

No1ErmaBombeckfan · 19/03/2008 21:48

So we pay taxes so that the Chancellor can take it to cover the money we already had in the bank..

Sounds fair... NOT!!!

It's not in trouble. 'Someone' started rumours that it was. here
The FSA are not happy bunnies and are out for blood over this.

saltire · 19/03/2008 21:55

Also i read this earlier on today here.
I don't think the bank of England, or teh Governemnt will let a major bank like that collapse, (not after the Northern Rock fiasco)and I certainly am not worried and hope the FSA does find out who is behind these rumours, as they could potentially destabalise the economy

No1ErmaBombeckfan · 19/03/2008 21:58

I live in hope but rumour or not, the Sh*t has been flung and if you throw enough of it...

theyoungvisiter · 19/03/2008 22:00

all rubbish according to the beeb - it was naughty traders trying to make money by causing the share price of HBOS to drop.

Consequently they are being investigated by the FSA.

theyoungvisiter · 19/03/2008 22:03

I don't think that's true Erma, traders are not stupid. Northern ROck hit problems because of a fact - that they'd had to be bailed out by the bank of England.

There don't seem (yet) to be any facts behind the rumours surrounding HBOS, hence the FSA investigation.

saltire · 19/03/2008 22:03

They said it about Lloyds TSB as well apparently

No1ErmaBombeckfan · 19/03/2008 22:07

Well, I hope the FSA can find the buggers offending traders and stop this sort of scaremongering...

Rumours like these ones do have a very self fulfilling aspect about them...

It's almost enough to make you dust off the shoebox under the bed!

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 19/03/2008 22:24

I just wish people would realise that even if the rumours were true taking all their money out would cause a worse disaster. They need to read up on the Wall Street Crash.
