Calling Southern MNers: Dad's 70th birthday - VENUE ideas? Help!!!!

Getting desperate!!

Dad's 70th in July and brother and I want to throw him a surprise birthday party. He lives in London but have elderly rellies who wouldn't travel into London so Home Counties (North and West of London) a safer bet.

Lovely food is key, and either somewhere that looks lovely/or has excellent atmosphere or is memorable maybe for its entertainment?

Neither brother ir I live in the south so haven't a clue. Or are we barking up the wrong tree and MNers can suggest something else for his 70th?

Is Bovingdon too far out?

It's in Hertfordshire - 10 mins down the road from Hemel Hempstead, which is about 30 mins from M1 jn1.

Anyway there is a place called the Bobsleigh Inn which may fulfill all your requirements and my mum got a date for the beginning of August the other week when enquiring.

But now my brother, who suggested the idea in the first place and has left me to search something out, is now thinking immediate family do and then spectacular treat for Dad and SM.
