For the last 3 months this has been happeneing with my hotpoint machine.
It only seems to happen n my clothes which is what drives me mad!! And not my DH.

He does not wanna spend out on new machine.
He has looked over it and cannot find anything that is snagging it.

Anyone else had this or reccommend a new machine as i may well be looking soon!!!!

Have you rung Hotpoint to see what they can do?

mindermummy · 13/03/2008 09:19

No. My dh is a plumber and sayes he knows they will find nothing!?

I think I'd be making a bit of a fuss to Hotpoint, getting them to send out an engineer free of charge.

Alternatively, have you checked over your clothes before you put them in the wash. Could they already have holes in from, say, clothes moths?

Mindermummy ..... I've had this on and off with my Hotpoint too, for over a year. Mind you, it's 8 years old and has been used an awful lot.

A couple of weeks ago it stopped spinning and turns out the belt had come off (whatever it was supposed to be on - I'm not mechanically minded)and, the bearings (whatever they are) need fixing too. It would have been over £160 (eek!) so thankfully, we are getting a new machine.

Round here, all the washing machine repair people charge about £45 call out just to have a look .... before any parts or repairs.

Mindermummy, may sound obvious, but I had same problem,I had man out, drum changed, loads of investigations, and at the end of it the plumber said, ' I think you are overfilling machine' ! Turns out he was right, I halve the load sizes I used to do, problem went. Drum should only be two thirds full [ absolute maximimum ] to let water circulate and items not twist tightly together as they spin. This is what is causing the holes. Reduce load size before replacing machine.
