pedilia · 09/03/2008 22:33

Depends on who it was and the type of relationship I had with them.

Why? Do spill....

bubblepop · 09/03/2008 22:34

I'd shut up then. They will not be aware of it and will not welcome the knowledge that Pongo is not just the daddy in 101 dalmations.

My SiLs house stinks. I mentioned it when she was selling it, she insisted it didn't.

expatinscotland · 09/03/2008 22:36

no, i could never bring myself to do that.

colditz · 09/03/2008 22:36

If it was my parent or my child and I was prepared to help them dewhiff. Otherwise, NO.

bubblepop · 09/03/2008 22:37

mmm thats what i thought! what about if the bathroom bin is overflowing with dirty nappies/sanitary towels?

OP posts:
PeachesMcLean · 09/03/2008 22:38

depends on what it smells of and how insulting it would be. Eg, your house smells of fags / dogs is different to your house smells of BO.

PeachesMcLean · 09/03/2008 22:39

Ah, x posts there...

There's a health issue there, it's not just the smell., Erm, I would, erm...

pedilia · 09/03/2008 22:40

No not in that case, however distasteful you may find it, everyone has a choice in how they live in their own house.

I hate the smell of a friend's home - and can smell it on dd when she's been playing there with their ds.

OP posts:
PeachesMcLean · 09/03/2008 22:42

You can't can you, because how could they fix it? Especially dog smell - dog owners don't notice it themselves anyway. (My MIL's house - uuuuurrrrrgggghh it stinks.)

There's also that weird "stale sweet biscuit" smell you get in some people's houses, but what causes it I have no idea.

Worst of all though, I have a friend who lives over a greasy spoon, and his flat reeks of stale cooking fat - blee. But I think he knows.

hana · 09/03/2008 22:46

nothing particular bubblepop, it's just unplesant - every house has a certain odour

bubblepop · 09/03/2008 22:47

i wonder if the stale sweet buscuit smell you talk about is damp

OP posts:
PeachesMcLean · 09/03/2008 22:47

Sounds like they may have a few issues keeping on top of things tbh. Are they genearlly tidy apart from the smell? I'm guessing not, in which case you need to tread careful cos anything you say is not just a comment on one thing, it's their whole life. Do they seem to be coping apart from the cleanliness?

pedilia · 09/03/2008 22:47

I have a dog and don't let my house get to the stage of smelling of dog, if you are out of your house for a few hours you can smell when you walk in the door if there is anything unsavoury or at least I can!

harpsichordcarrier · 09/03/2008 22:47

god, no
what would they do with this information?
I have a v strong sense of smell and most houses stink have a distinctive odour ime
