Pretty morbid, but how much does a funeral cost?

Me and dh have been talking lately about how we want to go when the time comes. I am arranging life cover for me, but its gonna be high for dh, so am thinking of setting up a 'funeral savings account' for him. He wants to be cremated, says a cheap coffin will do, as its gonna get burnt anyway. How much do you think that would cost? Take it we need hearse etc to get to the crematoprian, would probably only have 1 or 2 cars for family members.

or the co-op they're a massive national company

Co-op is good if you move house or areas(because whilst I understand you may have to do this sooner than some people, it could also still be a way away and things change), so I believe you can take the plan with you.

i doubt we'll move out of the area, we have good family support. am obviously hoping that dh goes on longer than what we have been told, but its just the nature of his illness.

wind beneath my weings, oooo how cheesey

think mine would be 'leave right now' just cos its always on, and my kids love it and say its my song

Misdee, my DH's funeral cost about £2500+ in total. The actual funeral (cremation) was about £1000, plot £500 & headstone £1000+ plus cost of flowers, wake etc probably nearer £3000. It is a shame to have or want to think about these things but it happens to all of us at some time so...... Anyway, there is a bereavement payment that everyone is entitled too which at the moment is £2000. It's not meant to cover funeral costs but I guess for most people that's exactly what it's used for. I think it's paid to widows/widowers only. hth. (whilst half way through this post, I've spent an hour on the phone so sorry if i'm repeating anything anyone else has said.

Thanks for the advice. will have a look at the sites later on, and when dh comes out of hospital will discuss things further with him.
