housing crisis

im prob not in the right section.. but i cant find my way around this! site has been recommended to as u ladies r apparently v knowledgable! My daughter is nearly 3, and im a working single mum.Been renting a 2 bedroom house nr chelmsford in essex for 18 months, and have found myself in debt trying to manage with everything. trying to get out of my lease, and hope to move back to my mums next month.only 4 a few months as she is downsizing and wont have room for us much beyond may next yr.am on housing list, but have basically been told i earn too much and they wont help me..95% of my salary is rent/bills, travel to london and childcare.although i am on the list.they say i should b able to afford to rent a place.i really cant.if the council wont help me, im going to be renting a 1 bedroom flat as thats all i can afford.i feel im being punished for workin..any advice greatly appreciated.. )

in my experience council housing departments don't make it easy - OK, there is a shortage of public housing, but I almost got the impression that they are trained to be quite hostile towards applicants to put off anyone who is just "trying it on". You'll have to be persistent, as ChristmasCracker says (and she is an expert on this!)

They will make it as hard as possible, because they are hoping that you will give up and find something yourself, but YES they do have to at least put you on the list.

You have to be aware that they also try and mislead you because at the end of the day anything that puts you off is worth it to them.
Just be very clear about what you are asking for, what you will and won't accept and make it know that you won't be fobbed off.

they put me on the list on april.. i have 90 points.. when i called n updated them last week they said i would need 220 points for a 2 bed place.. u get 12 points 4 every yr ur on the list.. accordin 2 them its gonna take me 10 yrs! everyone has been great 2day.. i will fight and b a nuisance, and write to every1.. get my doc writing letters, and pray the stress doesnt do me in! thank u all.. x
