I'm in a panic. I've only just found out that Mother's Day is this weekend and so I need to buy something that will be posted for me and arrive in time.

Wondering about photo gifts that I can upload. Think I saw a link on here a while ago but I can't remember who it was for.

Otherwise, any suggestions would be great! Looking at spending about £25.

Thanks all.

Oh shit.

[frantically googles]

arfishy · 28/02/2008 05:32

[looks up from googling]

Oi Santa - get yourself over to the Aussie who's who thread.

[realises F&M are no longer accepting orders and starts to sweat]

eidsvold · 28/02/2008 06:21

what about M and S arfishy?

I suppose I should get onto dh and get him to send something to mil.

arfishy · 28/02/2008 07:07

LOL, my thoughts exactly Eids. One champagne/chocolate combo courtesy of M&S winging its way to mum as we speak.

Not sure what I'll say about the lack of card, but hopefully the champagne will distract her.

suzywong · 28/02/2008 07:29

Isn't OZ like SA, USA where we celebrate Mothers Day and not Mothering Sunday??? If that's the case you are off the hook until May

IIRC there was another Ozzie girl in our office and they had the same day as SA

I think you

wriggly wigglers (sp?) or wiggley wrigglers ? do lovely organic flowers - very pretty natural looking bunch of flowers for about that price.

Tortington · 29/02/2008 14:39

please can i suggest to google a florist that is close to her

not use interflora

not use TESCO who are a bag of unholy watering shitty shitbags who fuck up your order and have to refund you twice becuase they are wank

i found a florist close to my Nan, a beautiful huge bouqet of flowers which come WITH fancy vase! £25

not even shittin ya - although the phone call to the florists in england might cost you thatmuch? funno

suzywong · 29/02/2008 14:42

ofgs, custy, why why why can't you stop being so enigmatically obtuse and say what you really mean for a feckin CHANGE!

Tortington · 29/02/2008 14:55

[hangs head in muchly shamedness}

suzywong · 01/03/2008 23:22

CUSTY YOU ARE THE FOUNT OF ALL WISDOM!

I ordered through Debenhams who advertised delivery on 1st march if ordered on Thursday. Saturday afternoon they email me, well Flowers Direct did as they are the company behind the scam, I mean Scheme, to say they can't deliver til Tuesday but they will send a comp box of chocs with it.

Naturally I turned on the heat and got on my high horse and painted lavish picture of tear-stained little Old Lady bereft of a boquet on Mother's day.

I'm wondering if they are actually breachin the trades description act by advertising a service they cannot deliver. Bastards

eidsvold · 01/03/2008 23:31

yes we do mother's day in May but there are plenty of expats here who still need to send things to mothers in the old country.

Scramble · 01/03/2008 23:40

re florists open tomorrow to take orders or will they be too busy dealing with the oreders they have? Just realised I haven't got my own mum anything .

suzywong · 02/03/2008 00:06

ahem, can I have some outraged and sympathetic comments about bastard Debenhams/Flowers Dircect, please?

eidsvold · 02/03/2008 04:09

terrible people - am sure there is some contravention of trades practices - look it up and call them back saying compensation of chocs is not acceptable.

for your poor mum - no flowers from suzy.

Actually it is bloody terrible - tell them from now on - you will use M and S rather than them for all your internet orders. You will also make sure all your expat friends will know about their poor service - especially in their late notice of failure to deliver. Not like you can pop to the store and get some others.

Bloody outrageous.

arfishy · 02/03/2008 04:33

You'll be ok. I find 'being in Oz' is a great excuse for sending all cards/presents 3 months late .

Just say you wanted to send genuine Australian flowers and hope she's not wise to the laws about shipping plants.

And yes, Evil Flowers Direct should henceforth be shunned by all mumsnetters.

[assumes parent PTA rep face] Have you been over to the Aussie roll-call yet?

suzywong · 02/03/2008 12:48

thank you both, it is some consolation.

I will tell them I have told all my expat friends, down at the truck stop
