Numpty question - do you have to see your own doctor?

Hello. I just wondered, when you join a doctors' surgery and you are assigned a doctor, do you have to see that person? Until I had dd last month I never went to the doctor at all so am fairly new to all the etiquette. My doctor is ok but there is another one who is lovely and I'd rather see her. Is that ok?

Thanks, end of numpty question!

depends on the surgery i think. i see various different doctors from our practice, as they are all fab, but its also govd to build a relationship with one in particular i think.

no. you can see who you want.

chocolatespiders · 25/02/2008 21:11

yes we can
although each surgery may have different policy

At the ones I've been at you've always been able to pick the one you like best.

At our surgery - no. Have been sa,e at all surgeries I have been to. You just make an appointment with who is available. If you want to request a specific doctor you have to wait quite a bit longer for an appointment I have found.

No, you don't, at our surgery if you have any female problems, you are automatically assigned to one particular dr who specialises in that area, whether she is your doc or not.

Thanks. I'm seeing lovely one next week because my one was away but I might just ask for Dr Lovely in future and see what happens.
