You know when you think about something that you do naturally and that makes you think you don't know?

Well I am just typing a letter and I thougt to myself what font size should it be, I am limited to 2 sides A4.

Should it be Times New Roman - 11 or 12?
Or Arial 11 - 12?

TNR

RubySlippers · 22/02/2008 13:41

11

RustyBear · 22/02/2008 13:41

I always use Arial 12 for letters - I'd only go down to 11 if I needed to get it into a smaller space - eg if it ould make it fit on one side instead of going over the page.

CoteDAzur · 22/02/2008 13:41

Times New Roman.
12 is way too big. I would go for 10.

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/02/2008 13:41

I would go for Arial font size 10, 11 or 12 depending on how much text, and regular space paragraphs. Prefer Arial to Times NR as sans serif fonts are more up to date and are easier to read. Always justify the text as well, stupid thing to get het up about but I hate it when I get a letter and the text is unjustified.

Arial 12 lokks a bit better IMHO
TNR can cause problems for dyslexics & people with reading probs (apparently) cos it's 'squarer'

CoteDAzur · 22/02/2008 13:42

Assuming this is a rather formal letter, that is. If it's a social letter to your cousin, have the font as big as you like.

twinsetandpearls · 22/02/2008 13:46

It is a formal letter.

When I draft letters to send home from school I always do it in Arial 12 as many of the parents have literacy problems and I know that TNR causes problems, but I always think it looks huge.

Ooh I really don't like TNR, please use Arial!

twinsetandpearls · 22/02/2008 13:47

It is an application letter for a teaching post.

This really matters to you flowerybeanbag.

Try Arial 11 - it's a wee bit smaller but they won't need a magnifying glass to read it

flowerybeanbag · 22/02/2008 13:49

Arial 11 then I would recommend.

flowerybeanbag · 22/02/2008 13:50

I have these irrational pet peeves, especially when looking at job applications. BUt don't worry, I wouldn't let it influence my decision in any way

Lio · 22/02/2008 13:50

Another vote for Arial over Times. 11 or 12.

schneebly · 22/02/2008 13:51

Arial 11 here too!

twinsetandpearls · 22/02/2008 14:17

I will do arial 11, have had a look at their letter to me which seems to be in arial 11.
