I'm fine but a bit miffed, and now have a raging headache - must be fromt he stress!

Was shopping with Mollie. Had had a lovely time and been to see Father Christmas. As we were passing Woolworths I thought we'd pop in and pick up some pants and tights for Mollie. As normal I put basket on top of pushchair hood, and as it's Cjristmas I am extra careful with security, so checked my bag was fine and fastened - it was. I have a pram bag with a zip and both purse and wallet were at bottom of this. And it fits right under handles so safer than ,y pockets or so I thought.

Did shopping and queued to pay. Tooka ges as person in front had tons of stuff. When my turn I icked up basket and put it on till. All the time in the shop and in que, I held onto pushchair handle - always do to be honest.

Turned to get my wallet to pay and noticed my bag wide open. It doesn't open like that just from unzipping - you'd have to go right into it first. Then noticed both my wallet and my purse had gone.

Luckily purse had just 70p left in it and I had no cash in wallets. Just my cards.

AS I spoke to an assistant two women heard me and came over. One woman had just caught a women going into her firend's bag and had pushed her away. The women - had good description of a shortish black women, quite young - hadwalked off swiftly out of shop, closely followed by a tall, young black guy - who had been stood behind me int he queue apparntly. Looks like they'd been together and working together to do this.

The two women gave statements to manager and were able to spot both man and woman on the CCTV videos, leaving the shop.

Police came to take my statement (took ages, but it is a busy time). The policeman was lovely. I upset Mollie by refusing the lft home in a police car though but DH works in town and we live in town too, so not needed.

So, there we go. Not much I could have done about it to be honest. One of those things.

But , please everyone - be careful when shopping. I was lucky - I had no cash and DH cancelled all cards within 15 minutes of it happening.

Take care! Be careful!

So sorry to hear about what happened. I sadly work with these scum bags and they are kids! They all tell me how they rob people, steal cars and worse but just a heads up for you that are reading. The latest craze at the moment for these kids is to look through your letterboxes to see whats in your house in the hope your car keys are near by (cars older than an N reg are almost impossible to break into apparently) This happened to me last week. The reason I know is that they have squirted a water pistol at my dog to distract him and it has left water running all down my door and on the carpet. My dog has gone so bolistic that he has scratched a hole in the wall next to the door! It's that deep it's gone down to the steel support!
Also the high street craze is to steal your belongings from shoe shops. They follow you, wait until you try something on and then steal your handbag! I know that won't cheer you up very much but it could help you.

York - that's part of the irony for me. I teach YOs and adult inmates in a local prison, many of whom have done this sort of thing in their past. Not what they are inside for now, but many have started out doing this kind of thing. Grrr!!!

How are you today Hula?
Be aware that this may affect you in time and not necessarily now.
My dh's business was broken into in July and he had about 6k worth of stock pinched by little scummy druggies- he's not slept at home since as he now sleeps on the premises to protect his stock.
Our video camera got nicked at the same time and you won't believe how upset I was- the thought of my dd's pictures... anyway- got a phone call from a copper I was in school with a few weeks ago-9got the phone call a few weeks ago- I was in school with him years ago IYSWIM Grin ) guess what- he'd found the camera in a raid and recognised my picture off the film- so even though the police have still got the camera I know that the druggie that pinched it hasn't got it. Oh and guess what the silly idiot had done? started to use the camera himself so the police have loads of evidence on it.

I am okay thanks Pixiefish.

Frustrated trying to sort things out - like my driving license though. Had my photo card stolen. Now need to replace it. Can only do that with a credit card - which I haven't got, and DH's is same acount and is also unusaable. And I have to pay for a new one, which seems unfair!

Hopefully credit/debit cards won't take the full 7 days to arrive either.

DH is going to buy me a nurse wallet and puse today to replace the ones I lost.

It is just annoying that this causes me unnecccesary expense and wastes my time.

awww Hula, so sorry to hear this. Glad you and dd weren't hurt tho. What a pair of complete......
I know it shouldnt make a difference but it seems extra bad when someone steals from a pushchair or nappybag!!
Hope the police get the meanies.

BTW, what is a nurse wallet? is it like a nurse watch in that it stays on your person?

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 11/12/2004 17:23

Angry It's horrid isn't it?

Another cautionary tale: don't leave your bag in your car whilst you're recycling. I had mine swiped like this a couple of years ago and apart from the hassle of cancelling cards etc, there were 2 unprocessed films from DS2s first christmas.

Hulababy · 11/12/2004 18:01

Ooops - type - meant to type purse and wallet!!!

I did get a lovely wallet - DD helped choose it so it is pink :) - today from John Lewis to replace them.

I want cards NOW!!!!

Felt bereft with no wallet, no cards and no cash when I went into town earlier. Dh is only one to have access to any cash right now. Personally reckon he thinks it's great - I can't go out spending! Grr! I want money!!! Grin

Can I go on a huge spending spree in a week's time to make up for it???

Sorry to hear this hulababy. Thanks for reminding us, I can be very careless about leaving my bag open and will remember not to be now.

champs · 12/12/2004 15:27

hula,
LOL!! How silly am I!! I thought it was some kind of purse, was gonna ask where to buy oneBlush
can you go into the bank tomomorrow and draw money at the cashier desk? just bring some ID. Some shops also accept cheques without card if you bring ID and put your address on back.

Hulababy · 12/12/2004 19:50

Dh has been and got me some cash out. Just don't like carrying cash (for this reason!) but will have to be careful for a week I guess. Hopefully the cards will be here soon.
