Perfect child's birthday pressie ( party)

Recently had party for dd age 7 and my heart sank as she opened lots of crafty kit type pressies! Mean, i know, but i'd much rather have a book or something that doesn't involve adult help. WH smith gift cards a dream! What do y'all think?

Oh dear. I was going to say crafty things are my fave to receive as they get us through the holidays.
Having said all that my policy this year is to give books.

How did dd feel about getting crafty stuff though ?

I think the issue is, that when you're out and about looking for birthday presents, it's actually much easier to buy a kit of some sort rather than some useless lump of plastic crap
