My poor baby doesn't know what's coming - he's going cold turkey tonight!

Ds2 was three yesterday - I've been priming him for giving up his dummies (he only has them in bed and when he's dozing off in his pushchair). Ds1 gave them up without a murmur at the same age but ds2 is a different kettle of fish. None of the tacks I have tried thus far have met with approval. He has said "no, not give my dodies to a baby", "no, not give my dodies to Farver Chrissmiss", "yes I have a present and my dodies too."

So I have decided he will just have to go cold turkey. His dodies are all in my friend's bin (I didn't trust myself not to get them out of mine if desperation set in!) I am just going to say we can't find one and we will get one tomorrow. Wish me luck.....

GOOD LUCK AND HOPE IT GOES WELL.

Fortunately or should I say unfortunately I don't have that problem. DD (3 in a couple of weeks) is a thumbsucker and nail chewer and unfortunately I can't throw her hands in the bin... ;)

merrymarthamoo · 08/12/2004 20:15

So far so good...bit of whimpering but he was very tired and has gone to sleep. Keep those fingers crossed for us though!

OLYurtofB - I admire your determination - did you have a dodie free house too or did you have some stashed away?

i'm dreading this. DD (18 months old today) has to have a dummy in her gob and one in her hand! I think she likes the extra security of knowing one's close by if the other falls out. We also gave her a cherry teat to start off with so that's all she'll take now and her front teeth have got a bit of a gap so I'd love to do away with them. Don't think it'll happen anytime soon though. Good luck and let us know how he gets on tonight!

Kaysleighbells · 08/12/2004 21:49

merrymarthamoo, good for you. ds2 (3.5) has said he will give his dummies to father xmas so that father xmas can pass it on to a baby that needs it. HMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm brave words Grin

Ds1 didn't give his up till the day of his 5th birthday!

SenoraPostrophe · 08/12/2004 22:10

aaaaah mmm - how could you?

merrymarthamoo · 09/12/2004 07:17

Well.................

he was fine. Slept right through without a murmur. Woke up at 20 to 6 (but that's normal) and came up to our room and got into bed - first words were "I not got no dodie, Mummy" so I sort of mumbled "oh dear, oh well, oh never mind" or words to that effect.

Have an ominous feeling that it's all been too easy so far...will keep you posted!

Btw, once we've got the dodies kicked we'll start work on his grammar: "I not got no dodie" indeed! Deary me Grin

merrymarthamoo, how's it going tonight ???

merrymarthamoo · 09/12/2004 22:35

Still so far so good!

I took him out in his buggy this afternoon - he normally asks for his dodie straight away but he didn't even mention it (and went to sleep effortlessly!)

Just before bed he had a little wobble and said "where's my dodie?" And I said "I don't know, sweetheart - I haven't found any." He said maybe we left them at Grandma and Grandad's in Wales, so I agreed. He asked dh if he had found them too, dh said no - that's it: gone to bed, no problem.

Dh and I are both Shock and Smile

Thanks for remembering, KSB Smile

joashiningstar · 09/12/2004 23:35

Oh well done to you and DS. Planning on doing this with GS sometime in the next week. He's almost two and all three of my onw gave theirs up at 12-14 months.

Hope your situation continues. Smile

merrymarthamoo · 09/12/2004 23:52

He is a little star

Good luck, joash!
