Is there anywhere within walking distance of the hospital to have lunch? Doesn't have to be haute cuisine or anything, nice pub maybe??

TIA.

Not really, it's kind of stuck out on a roundabout. There is a bus station right next to it though with loads of buses that go into town. You can stop off at Cambridge leisure Park (4 minutes)which has cineam and places like Bella Pasta and Nando's (don't go to Frankie & Bennies, it's dire) or Alimentum (2nd best restaurant in Cambridge) or go into Emmanuel Street (all buses stop/start there) and it's a 2 minute walk to Regent Street with places like Wagamama, Pizza Express.

When are you going to be there?

There's a big food court in the hospital itself as well, with lots of different things. That's even less haute cuisine than the pub option obviously, depends what you're after and how convenient to the hospital it needs to be.

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately we're very au fait with the hospital concourse which is why we're trying to avoid it!

Dh's first appointment is 11.15, 2nd at 2.15pm so we've got a couple of hrs or so to kill. We've done the bus into town a few times but not sure if we've got time to get into town, eat and get back.

We know of a couple of pubs within driving distance but are trying to avoid moving the car off the hospital car park so we don't have to pay twice and also lose our parking space.

I found a pub called The Rock on Queen Edith Road on the net, any idea what it's like?

Cherry Hinton Road, sorry.

The Rock is not that great. But if you are going to walk to the Rock, you might as well walk to Cambridge Leisure Park. As Prufrock says, it has places like Bella Pasta and Nando's. It would take approximately the same amount of time to walk to either - about 20 - 25 mins depending on where in Addenbrookes you started off from.

If you did decide to take car go to the rupert brook at granchester - really yummy food

turn left onto long road exit (past sixth form college)

left at the t junction at end of long road then turn right where it is signpost for granchester

head down wiggly road - pub appears on your right

ProfYaffle · 15/02/2008 12:56

That's helpful to know - will have a chat with dh and see what he wants to do.

Thanks everyone.

If you are going to go to the leisure park, do treat yourlsef and go to Alimentum. They now serve Baileys so dh and I have removed our self imposed ban and it is lovely. They do a 2 course lunch for 12:50 and guarantee to serve within an hour and the food is incredibly better than anything else you'l find in the leisure park.

ProfYaffle · 15/02/2008 14:25

That does look nice. Am slightly about the braised trumpets though! Do you think we should book?

You should be OK at lunchtime, but maybe ring to check?

I measured the distance on my way into town today and its 0.9 miles from the Addenbrookes roundabout to Alimentum, just straight down Hills Road.

cazzybabs · 15/02/2008 17:24

Dito Alimentum - although everytime I try to book they are full. It would take you about 20 mins (max) to walk from Addenbrookes to Alimentum.

ProfYaffle · 15/02/2008 19:20

You measured it - very thorough, I'm impressed.

It's occured to me that our 1st appointment could will run over so we can't really book and will just have to take our chances, hope we get in.

Thanks for the help.
