I won't be doing anything special with it and it doesn't need to be anything fancy, hence the low budget. If somebody/anybpdy could look at these cheapies and tell me how they work and what they think I'd be most grateful!

They work by storing the image/film on it's memory and then you use the USB lead to save it on to the computer or put it on a dvd (from the computer - will need special software to do that...)

I think... if you are a total technophobe, it may be better getting a second hand tape-recorder (can get a digital one) from ebay or somethng because you can use them and get them on to videos without a pc! However, you could get the software and sit and play with it and have the satisfaction of teaching yourself how to put the images on to a dvd (it really isn't hard - software usually talks you through it... once you buy the software)

You can view the videos on the pc without the software I think if you have something like Windows Media Player which is simple enough.

That makes sense, thank you. I'm OK at working things like that out with the instructions (unlike dh ), it's just knowing what to buy and what I need that's the problem. I think one of them had the software with it, will have a look.
Can I still record to DVD through WMP?

Not entirely sure to be honest... perhaps ask in Geeky stuff?
