Have you had new UPVC windows - how much did it cost?

Cheeky I know, but just wanted a rough idea.

We've been looking at a house and it doesn't have dlouble glazing - well we don't think it has anyway.

In terms of windows we would be looking at:

Square bay window at front (currently has 4 panes at front, and one either edge)

3 larger windows - currently 3 panes wide (bedroom windows style)

4 medium sized windows (small room type) - currently 2 panes

Hall window (1 pane)

Bathroom window - obscure glass (1 or 2 panes)

Cloakroom window - obscure glass (1 pane)

And maybe 2 entrance doors

Anyone had a 4 bed house done recently, and have any idea of what kind of cost we'd be looking at?

we had our windows done last year. we had Coldseal do 2 windows for £1200 and got another company to do the rest of the house - 8 windows for the same. We learned the hard way - ask friends for recommendations and don't use the big boys with salesmen!

not the same but to give you a guide we have just had 4 large windows, one door and a glass panel to match the door plus a roof put on our conservatory and it cost us £3300. That was to put new upvc onto existing walls!!!

I had a big bay window done at the front of the house and it cost over £1,500. I suppose it's about the same size as 4 windows though but the price freaked me a bit.

We are in Sheffield - but have only just seen the house. We are only going from a brochure at the moment.

Parents used a really good repuable firm when they had theirs done, paid a lot. But guess what? Yep, they went bust - guarantee worthless, etc. So even with the posh firms it can all go wrong anyway!

Just want mid range, basic windows.

shame - bit far away for dp to do it although his company do a 'showhome' promotion where you get the price dropped by thousands

Oh well. Never mind.

We are hoping to go see this house this week. Can take more notes at the time and see if we can get some rough quotes. DH is sure one of his secretary's DHs does windows.

About 3500

Ours cost £4,500 about 3 yrs ago - 13 assorted windows in 4 bed house, no doors.

We used Coldseal, they did a great job and no complaints so far, 3 ys on...

does the house currently have the original windows? If so, you will almost certainly devalue it by putting in plastic windows.

I think it depends on the house aloha - mine is only 9 yrs old and the windows put in by the builders were hopeless - many other houses on the estate have replaced theirs as well.

I agree that if the house is new then new windows would be fine. It's old houses that my comment applied to. Sorry!
