What you'd like to say to billionaires

I would like the mega wealthy and allegedly intelligent people like Mr Musk to keep the space thing for weekend jaunts and focus on getting a tidal energy system in place that would free the world from its dependence on oil etc that is the root of so much pain, pollution and war. Why is that not a greater accomplishment?

Aussette · 20/02/2023 06:53

Because they earn their money from oil tycoons and get fuck all from tidal

whatsthismum · 20/02/2023 06:53

The charity you do or supporting causes isn't something coming from your kind hearts, it's a drop in the ocean compared to all the the money you owe to the state from fiddling and finding loops in scheming ways to hide what you actually meant to be paying back.

Madamecastafiore · 20/02/2023 07:09

I'm sorry that people think they have a right to tell you how to spend your money when you likely are v v charitable.

(& Well done for making so much and can I borrow your private jet and fully staffed luxury island for a month too please Wink)

We're supposed to do what we can to make the world a better place. You have more power to do that than most. Have you really done your best to fight the destruction of our natural world, the injustice and suffering you know is happening? With a lot of money you have more responsibility to try and make a difference.

IwasToldThereWouldBeCake · 20/02/2023 08:25

I have met two self made billionaires, and I was just polite as normal to them, as I would be to any senior person I might meet through work. No need to make any assumptions about any of them. They get up and put one sock on after another like the rest of us and are equally deserving of every day curtesy, the same as everyone else.

The entitlement and presumption to be automatically rude to anyone is not healthy.

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 20/02/2023 08:28

Thankyou for the billions you donate to charities when you don't have to.

silverclock222 · 20/02/2023 08:29

Anything going spare?

ElmTree22 · 20/02/2023 08:40

Why do you need so much money?

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 20/02/2023 08:42

1 - why do you need so much money?

2 - why are you sat on all that money in offshore accounts?

3 - even if you gave half your wealth away with the other billionaires you'd have enough to live off and end poverty across the world, so why are you so selfish?

4 - why don't you pay your taxes?!

Woahhohoho · 20/02/2023 08:46

Can you lend me £10k please would probably be quite high on my list right now.

Interesting one, I would be tempted to ask if they would be more willing to pay tax if it went to causes they believe in vs the general government pot. We are comfortable and but not wealthy, we would happily pay more if it went where I thought it should.

I would ask them if they would run for PM and if so what they would focus on. We really need a PM focused on growth and security not the current social issues of the day

Muddays · 20/02/2023 11:36

@IwasToldThereWouldBeCake really, are you for real? I'm not discussing millionaires but billionaires. One billion's more demure definition is one thousand million. £1000,000,000. Anyone who earns that kind of money is rarely someone who treats others with the courtesy you seem to think they deserve. You're either extremely naive or a lackey looking for a desperate pay rise.

I am for real. I have met 2 billionaires and they were both very pleasant and normal people, who deserved their wealth and were entitled to manage it in whatever legal manner they chose.

They were creative, innovative, driven, committed a lifetime of time and energy to their passion and eventually amassed huge wealth. They were polite and quiet and deserving of respect and courtesy. They were both very humble considering their wealth, and of course super smart and focused.

There is no automatic right to be rude to anyone, just because they are successful.

Muddays · 20/02/2023 12:06

@IwasToldThereWouldBeCake I am not and never would say being disrespectful or rude is acceptable and it's irritating that you assume this.
People are people no matter who they are. However, when a human being has an extraordinarily obscene amount of money and doesn't feel uncomfortable about it, that's the problem.
There are charities begging for just £4 a month/£48 a year, not much eh? But the mega wealthy have turned the world upside down and they don't see the opposite poverty or the families who are having to choose which child to sell so they can feed the others.
With great wealth comes great responsibility, it's a burden that should be taken very seriously.

OP posts:
IwasToldThereWouldBeCake · 20/02/2023 12:11

Why do you presume that individual billionaires don't manage their money responsibly and ethically?

It's all subjective.

Anyone virtue signaling about how another person should live, should turn the spotlight on themselves and assess what they are doing to combat inequity, rather than fantasise about what they would say to random wealthy people, if they got the chance.

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/02/2023 12:14

Same as Is say to anyone else when I first meet them.

What right do I have to ask them about their private affairs?

In the very unlikely event that a Billionaire stumbles across this thread. They might well think just the same about your OP @Muddays .

Flytrap01 · 12/04/2025 03:41

just watching the show billons, i think part of being rich is keeping these large company's in business creating jobs etc and that some of the wealth is value of stocks and shares etc rather than just cold ££

user109876543 · 12/04/2025 11:33

Do you let your workers unionise?
