Turkish Rugs - Do you have one? Would you want one? Tell Me What You Know About Them Please

At some point, I would like a rug for the sitting room to go over wood floors. I was speaking about this to a cousin, and she mentioned that twice a year she is invited to a private 'warehouse sale' of Turkish rugs. The people are reputable, and have been holding these sales for years.

I have no idea about Turkish rugs. Are they generally considered good quality? What are the desirable characteristics? Any negatives, or things to look out for? Any information you can share would be most helpful.

Erm, the originate from Turkey?

Think if I needed a rug I'd sling myself into the nearest JL and ask advice from there about something I liked. Are we talking thousands?

Thanks for info Cali.

My cousin's dh bought a fairly large rug for his office made from the wool (?) of the 'neck of lambs' which evidently is supposed to mean 'very fine' - and it is an exceptionally soft rug, with vibrant colours.

2sugars - cousin says the rugs range generally from about £200 for smallest ones, into the thousands. According to her, you are expected to haggle over price, and the prices charged are significantly less than shop prices.

Anyone else have knowledge/opinions about Turkish rugs?
