Chances I’ve gave us food poisoning …

I cooked my kids pork sausages that were 7 days out of date I thought the pack said the 14th but when I went to bin it half the zero had been rubbed off and it was actually the 4th! They only had a few bites and I took them away I also ate a few bites. They didn’t smell or taste off I wouldn’t worry if it was just me but I feel awful I gave them to my kids! I’m usually a freak about use by dates and never go over them! Oops

So what would you do if you bought them from a butchers and they had no dates ? People are losing the ability to assess the freshness of food for themselves. Based on what you’ve said I imagine it’s fine.

I'm pretty sure butchers sell fresh produce and not nearing its use by date. Usually they recommend freezing anything you're not going to use in the next couple of days. I agree with using your own judgement when it comes to fruit, veg and processed food, but when it comes to meat and dairy I would be a bit more cautious, especially 10 days past a use by date.

OP, if they didn't smell or taste off and you cooked them well then I'm sure you will be fine, but there is a chance you could get an upset tummy. Were they kept refrigerated the whole time?

Fully cooked most food that smells ok is ok. I've certainly eaten 7 day out of date pork sausages and a month out of date bacon with no ill effects (I'm not suggesting it for others, just for reassurance) I have a liberal attitude to food safety, so far no issues

Yes they were in the fridge the whole time, and I cooked them fully. Just feel silly I guess I am also sleep deprived from my nearly 2 year old! Will not make the same mistake again. Just worried incase my kids get a bad tummy I’d feel awful.

People are so worked up over these dates on food, it's getting ridiculous. If they have been stored properly, they smelled fine, tasted fine, and were fully cooked, you don't have anything to worry about.

Did you throw them away? What a shame, if so. They’d have been absolutely fine. Such a waste.

The dates are not what you should be judging food quality by.
