do hair straighteners wreck your hair?

i want to use them about 4 times a week but i don't want to wreck my hair. Am I asking the impossible?

And can someone tell me if GHD's really keep your hair straighter longer. I can get my hair straight and looking great with the ones i have (old fashioned ones) but as soon as i step outside it's ruined.

they aren't good for your hair, let's put it like that. however if you use good conditioners and serums you should be able to keep it in reasonable condition.

and GHD's keep it fab - even on rainy days. worth every penny.

any direct heat to the hair isn't good for it but I'm afraid in my case I need all the help I can get - going au naturale is a 'no-no' Grin

I am glad she doesn't use mumsnet. Blush

does it mean good hair day???

JanH · 05/12/2004 20:23

Yes it does, Kanga, I only found that out this weekend and I've known about them for ages!

If anybody wants some, have a look \link{http://www.lookfantastic.com/cgi-bin/lf.storefront/41b36dd1000598282740c0a8010a0645/Catalog/1199\here} - you have to become a "member" (???) but then you get them for only (Wink) £88 and a couple of useful freebies thrown in.

thanks Jan

btw I have straight short hair so not nesscessary for me Smile

Yes, but they work brill! I find they can keep my straight for two days (even if it gets damp in the rain) so I only need use them twice a week. I use lots of serum and conditioner, and its not too bad and I try to have lots of holidays. I don't bleach my hair so its not too bad, but I do have quite a few broken bits (but they soon smooth down with a bit of ol hair spray!) Personally,I couldn't live without mine (frizzy hair!!)

I bought a set from boots, Videl sasoon ones and they are just fantastic. They were £20 reduced from £25.
Since i had DS ive been feeling fat frumpy and disgusting. After i had used them, i felt for the first time in 2 years like i looked "nice".
My hair fell out in hand fulls after i had him and grew back frizzy, thick and horrid so i spend all my days with it tied back.
I have only used them 3 times and although they will wreck my hair, im willing to have good cuts regularly and condition it well.
I would highly recommend them, they have done my self asteem a world of good. Smile

my hair has been a lot better since i havent been using the straighteners. i used to use them about twice, maybe three times a week and my hair was in not awful, but far from good condition. i use them only when i go out now which sometimes isnt for a couple of months. i do have my hair bleached with highlights though too so i dont surpose that helps much. does anyone know if these new wet to straight ones are any good? do they cut down on damage? im using the remington slim ceramic ones at the moment and the wet to straight look like a good time saving device. (my hair is very thick, takes about 1 1/2 hours to dry, straighten and style).
