This is just a bit of celebrity bashing but... is anyone else bugged by Jennifer Lopez's impending marriage to Ben Affleck??!!! She was married to her first husband for a year before filing for divorce, her second marriage to Cris Judd lasted for a huge nine months before she filed for divorce again in July, and now she's engaged to Ben Affleck and says she wants to marry him on Valentine's Day. GROW UP woman!!! It just bugs me how celebrities change their marriage partners like they change their handbags. Why the hell do they bother getting married in the first place?? It's such a farce. There, I've had my say...

I am acquainted with one or two people who've had short, childless marriages, and I don't think worse of them for that, because marriage is more than an intention to settle down for life, it's also an affirmation that you won't be unfaithful. But, now that contraception gives us the choice over delaying having children, is marriage reserved for when you intend to have children? Are we saying that in the new morality short relationships are OK as long as you don't get married? Sorry to pick up on this Shattered, when you were probably just sounding off about a public figure! Agree that one can't maintain that sort of life and be a Catholic at the same time. I can't help wondering what the new consensus on morality is.

Crikey, Croppy, the mechanics of divorce in the UK today seem really easy to me - I must be hopelessly old fashioned!

I think waht annoys me most are the breathless declarations that 'at last! Celebrity X has finally found true love forever' which are always followed at record speed by the viciously acrimoniously divorce complete with gagging orders and custody fights. Then on with the new, big frock, massive ceremony, a dozen bridesmaids, but nothing at all learned from the experience. Patsy Kensit used to be a prime offender, though she seems to have learned her lesson at last.
