Have you ever taken up an old hobby again after about, ooh, 20 years?

At school I used to sing in a choir and a folk group, and play in an orchestra/ band, and I was quite good (y'know, grade 8+ standard, so not a complete beginner

I dropped it all when I went to Uni

Now I feel like I'd like to do something like this again, but I'm a bit apprehensive.

Are all amateur choirs full of blue-rinsed old ladies?

Do 'adult' orchestras/ bands exist for the good, but less than professional standard, musicians?

I played flute at school, got grade 3 and that was before GCSEs, didn't touch it for years, now play weekly in church music group which is fun and sociable and useful but not stretching
I'm sure there are choirs out there for people who have yet to achieve blue hair status - my brother sings in one in Manc
Try random googling of art/orchestra/music/your area and use as many different phrases as you can think of

Most choirs are all age groups did you see the Crouch End Festival Chorus performing with Ray Davies in the Electric Proms?

If you are good I am sure you will pass the audition and be made very welcome

And there are lots of good amateur orchestras around - depending on your location, of course.

www.amateurorchestras.org.uk/

Try this site - should tell you if there's something in your area.

What instrument do you play? If it's a string instrument it's usually very easy to join an amateur orchestra. Harder if it's ww or brass.

I took up ballroom dancing at 17, did this for a few years, got quite good and dropped it in my early 20s. Cue Strictly come dancing about 12 years later...

I've dropped out again now because I can't be arsed to do the competitions although taking the medals is fun.

Singing is probably more fun though....
