Horrible chemical smell from dd's top when I ironed it

I let her wear it to school though - should I have binned it?

I checked the fabric composition and it is 92% cotton, 8% elastane. The iron was on a cotton setting so I assume this was the cause but surely it shouldn't give off such a terrible smell?

it was probably the dye?

Yes, I hadn't thought of that.

It didn't smell after I had finished ironing it which is why I let her wear it. I'll see if it happens again when using a cool setting. A bit worrying that it smelled so awful though.
