Hi all.
I have been taking my 4 year old swimming since she was 4 months (bar a short time during pandemic) and she has always absolutely loved it, back in feb she even swam 5 metres and spends half her time diving under the water back in March she had grommets inserted but I don’t think the issue started then as she is fine with ear plugs and swim hat and was fine the first few times, however we went on holiday to a hotel with a pool and she had a scary experience when she lost her float and my husband wasn’t close, she was fine but is now so nervous and every lesson has been worse than the last, she now does nothing but clings to us (legs snd arms around) and won’t let go, even though if it’s shallow enough to touch the bottom she is fine (diving and splashing and swimming really well independently.. as soon as she can’t touch the bottom she freaks out and won’t do anything, she’s also started saying she doesn’t want to go to lessons but just go to the local pool (which is shallow enough to touch the bottom) but I think it’s an important skill to learn properly and also she’s always loved it, I don’t know how to support her through this but it’s really infuriating seeing as she can swim really well when she tries! Any ideas?
