I have all of those and more in a box upstairs!
I am terrified to bring them down in case DD1 rips them, so am going to wait until she is much older (she is nearly 2)
But then will be scared about DD2 (3 montsh!) destroying my lovely books!

They may just stay in a box forever...

FlameNFurter · 11/01/2008 20:55

Oooooooooooh we probably have those in mum's loft!

Babyramone · 11/01/2008 21:14

You're all so lucky to have them. We moved when I was 16 and my nana (dads mum)chucked loads thinking my sister and me too old. My sisters never forgiven her for chucking her hungry hippos.
My mum was livid.
Pics made me smile. I wanted the pink shoes in Elves and shoemaker

Monkeytrousers · 11/01/2008 21:30

The original ones are going for fortunes on Ebay - well not fortunes but a lot

they are lovely, can you post up the cinderella one by any chance? One of my earliest memories is looking at the beautiful dresses in that book when I was about 5 years old.

madamez · 12/01/2008 00:35

I found the Cinderella one on a kids-book site going for about £15 and was actually still tempted, because I loved the dresses in that one as a kid.
I have still got a fair few of my best loved kid books, some of which I have now been brave enough to let DS have (when he was about 11 months they were ll in his room but he took to ripping and eating them so they were removed). Have AA Milne When We Were Very Young and Now We Are Six in 60s editions with non-disney drawings....

Monkeytrousers · 12/01/2008 00:54

This is the Cinders one I remember.

These are all off Ebay BTW. I found them just looking for vooks for DS. If you put in 'ladybird books' or especially the titler thjey have vintage titles.

Isn't it werid though? have never felt so nostalgic ever!

Know what you mean MT they are a blast from the past aren't they??!!

JackieNo · 12/01/2008 13:09

Someone brought some of these in to work and put them in a charity book box we have there, so I snapped up Cinderella and the Elves and the Shoemaker. My idea of gorgeous dresses was so shaped by the Cinderella books, that for years, well into my teens, I was drawing dresses with hoops and panniers at the sides. Still love them.

saltire · 12/01/2008 13:27

I remember those. My favourites were Rapunzel and the Princess and the Pea! Oh and Rumplestiltskin

annoyingdevil · 12/01/2008 13:52

Someone bought DD a set of these for Xmas (not originals) She absolutely adores them, but she's only 2.9 and I do worry if they are suitable. Wolves forever gobbling people up, wicked witches, girly princesses and strong princes.

Monkeytrousers · 12/01/2008 19:46

princess and the pea

Rapunzel

There is a book I've seen in Costco that has loads of Ladybird pictures in it & bits from the books - including "The Party" which I can still remember "Susan and John are going to a party, Susan puts on her new dress...."

Monkeytrousers · 12/01/2008 19:52

Don't like Rapunzel's much

This One!

Tommy · 12/01/2008 20:02

there was someting on telly about Ladybird books over Chrismas. I just kept shouting "Oh yes - that one. definitely remember that." and stuff and DH was getting abit bored of it (don't think they had books in his house when he was a child )

I loved Snow White and Rose Red and the Cinderella ball dress is always the one I think of as the "proper" one.

saltire · 12/01/2008 20:24

monkeytrousers - they are the ones I remember. i wonder if my mum still has them in her loft!
