Travel to U.K. with Irish passport

I have dual citizenship - British/Irish. I am travelling to Italy on Friday from the U.K. for a few days, returning to the U.K. I know that I have to leave and enter the U.K. on the same passport and my passport details need to match the ones I give to the airline, but I’m worried because I can’t currently find my British passport - just my Irish one. If i don’t find my British one before Friday, is there any potential issue with me using my Irish one to fly? Will the border force agents question why I am entering the U.K. on my Irish passport? Please help! I feel really stressed!

Im dual Irish/British and recently moved back to the UK from the EU. I flew in on my Irish passport (my British went out of date a couple of years ago). Passport control in Heathrow asked how long I was staying, I said 'forever' and that was it, they didn't mention anything about my Irish passport.

I doubt you can use a different passport to the one you used for booking. If you have not checked in yet, it is worth calling the airline and try to amend passport details that way.

Your fears about using your Irish passport to enter UK are unfounded. There is still free movement between the two countries and it shouldn't be an issue. It is the AIRLINE you need to be concerned about, but I am sure you will be able to change the booking. You might have to pay a fee though!

You seem to be aware already that you need to use the same passport on both legs of the journey, and you also seem to know that the airline will want the passport you are using to match the booking.

As long as you haven't already submitted your API, there won't be a problem. Actually, it'll be easier for you because you're travelling to EU on an EU ppt.

What’s the problem? I’m confused - you’ve not left for the holiday yet or checked in yet right?

So why would you not be able to travel on the Irish one?

(Sorry maybe im
missing something)

Thanks for all your replies. I read that you had to enter the US on your US passport if you were a US citizen, even if you had dual nationality, and I wasn’t sure if the U.K. had the same rules.
