When I was a kid, if my mum ever sung 'Clementine' to me, I would burst into tears. It was the 'I was lost and gone forever' bit that got to me!! Did anyone else experience this?

Also, my ds used to cry to a song called 'Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear', whenever we went to Toddlers World. God knows why, I suppose it must have reminded him of his own beloved bear back at home. He also crys and gets all cuddly whenever I sing 'You are my Sunshine' to him, I have been singing to him ever since he was a newborn and he says it makes him really happy when he hears it!! Aaaah Bless.

My Granny used to sing 'que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be,' (someone will correct me on the spelling).
Also, Silent Night still sends shivers up my spine, also from Granny.
Tonight, Tonight from West Side Story reminds me of my mum.

And Mr Bojangles, Sammy Davis Jnr, mum again, recently resurrected by Robbie (drool, phwoar) makes me cry when I play it in the car, over and over, so my two will eventually love or loathe it.

'Two little boys' always did it for me. And 'Puff the magic dragon'. And Tom Jones (?) 'Green green grass of home', which my Nana had a record of.

Awww 'You Are My Sunshine' is dd's song, dh has been singing it to her since I was 12 weeks pg! Ds's song is 'Bring Me Sunshine' I used to cry at Puff too, and I used to make my Mum cry cos Dad taught me to sing 'Little Old Wine Drinker Me' by Dean Martin, so it makes me cry when I hear it now.

When I was about 8 our music teacher sang 'Old Shep' (Elvis) to us and I was the only girl who cried, luckily a boy did too though so I was pretty much ignored and he was tortured!!

Tillysmummy · 22/10/2002 15:22

Clarinet60 · 22/10/2002 19:07

Yes, another one for 2 little boys. We should start a rolf appreciation club

glitterbabe · 22/10/2002 19:46

2 little boys and Aretha Franklin 'say a little prayer', still brings a lump to my throat.

Sam29 · 22/10/2002 21:39

I have to confess the themes from Lassie and also The Littlest Hobo always did for me, and still do! Think is the abandoned, but ever loyal dog theme......... weird or what?

Azzie · 23/10/2002 06:21

On the subject of '2 little boys' - I heard someone interviewing Rolf Harris a while back and they asked about this song. He said that when the writer first played him the song his initial reaction was 'Oh no, what on earth it this?', then they got to the line 'Do you think I could leave you dying' and all of a sudden it really got to him.

I posted on an earlier thread about my DS' sensitivity but he weeps at 'Dance to Your Daddy my Bonnie Laddie', most classical music - especially really slow and mellow pieces, that Ronan Keating one 'If tomorrow never comes' and basically anything that has a sad tone to it ... bless his little cotton socks!!

Ghosty · 23/10/2002 08:05

I used to cry at '2 little boys' too ...
And Brotherhood of Man's 'Save all your kisses'

karenanne · 23/10/2002 08:36

bright eyes from watership down makes me cry even now!also watching lassie ,black beauty etc..cant watch them even now.
one of my earliest memories is crying hysterically in the cinema when bambis mother died.in the end my mum had to take me home it upset me so much.
ive always been a soft touch esp with animals!

Azzie, I heard that interview too. It is an extremely shivery song.

soothepoo · 23/10/2002 11:41

Bron - my mum used to have to whisk me away from the tv before the end of Andy Pandy - it used to break my heart (and it still does!) - those building blocks turning over to daisies!! Too sad

CAM · 24/10/2002 11:05

karenanne I cried buckets at Bambi too and still remeber how heartbroken I was even though it was several decades ago for me. It was definitely a first for me, before that I didn't know people could be so cruel (I can't help being pathetic)

karenanne · 24/10/2002 12:19

also the i love you ,you love me song at the end of barney.
i used to sing this to dd all the time when she was a baby...everything was ok till i watched childrens hospital (i think) and a little 18 month old was bought in from a house fire and his mum foir the first episode was in intensive care too.next episode she finally was able to visit him in hospital..he was lying there bandeged from head to toe with all these tubes, her throat was damaged by the smoke and she just stood there and sang it to him in this real whispery raspy voice.i just sat there bawling like a complete idiot for the next half an hour!!!1

VJR · 24/10/2002 14:00

Bambi gets me everytime. I used to have it on audio tape when I was little and my Mum would fing me sobbing in my room with my headphones on!

I still have to leave the room in Dumbo when he goes to visit his mum in jail. There she is all locked up just because she was trying to protect her baby and she rocks him in her trunk and then the music...oh the music......(tears welling just thinking about it!)

rosehip · 24/10/2002 20:20

Ben by Michael Jackson, until someone said it was about a rat .....

Mel · 24/10/2002 20:32

The song from Dumbo when all the animal mothers are cuddling with their babies and Dumbo's mother can only rock him through the bars of the cage. And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, he's led away by the mouse!!!!!! HOWL!!!!!
