Anyone been to St David's hotel in Cardiff? Or should we go somewhere else (night away without children)?

Anyone? The suites look nice and fulfil my criteria of overlooking some water and having enormous beds. Dp and I have a night away together, should we go here? We can go anywhere within an hour of Bristol. Have done Hotel du vin, don't want anywhere that takes children (since we're going without them!) so that's Wooley Grange etc out, Babington's too far, friend says Cowley Manor is up its own arse. Any other suggestions? I want boutique, big baths, king size bed, 5*, fab service. TIA for any suggestions.

Haven't stayed in any Cardiff hotels though have drunk in a few of the seedier ones as I was a student there in my misspent youth. Cardiff's a fabulous city for a short break though (or were you planning on spending all your time in your room ?)

That looks OK beety - tell you what, www, you can pay for me to go and stay there for a couple of days and I'll write you a full review. You really don't want to go without having had someone check it out first.

My DH proposed to me in St David's hotel about 3 years ago - it is a really lovely hotel - v comfortable, lovely spa and treatments, i really recommend it - in fact we are going back there at the end of the year for a weekend without our DS (the first time we will have left him since he was born - nearly a year ago!)

Thank you all. Will let you know where we go and give you a review when we get back. Marthamoo, yeah right! Yep, intend spending most of the time in our room, venturing out only to eat. Maybe.

Food at St David's expensive and not that nice but the hotel itself is probably a better setting for a "romantic" w/e than Hilton. Some of the rooms there have internal windows onto the atrium so you'd have to keep the curtains cloased all the time.....

We live in Cardiff and stayed at St David's on our wedding night - the beds are some of the most comfortable I've slept in and the spa is great. Socci - the Hilton is excellent actually, restaurant is superb - dh & I are regulars (and I actually prefer the food to St David's which always looks lovely but sometimes fails to live up to expectations. WWW - I would agree that St David's is a better hotel for a romantic weekend and if you want a good dinner, I recommend Woods in Cardiff bay which is about the same price as St David's but better - and just a couple of minutes walk away.
