Has anyone been to Woolley Grange Hotel - Wiltshire? I'm thinking of a suitable birthday present for myself (!) and wondered about a couple of nights here.....it's a significant birthday and we did't go away on honeymoon earlier in the year so I feel like being pampered a bit......This way, the kids can come too and we all get to have some fun!

Very posh!
My father in law was a porter there years ago.
Very nice by all accounts.

We stayed there 3 years ago - dds were 3 and 2. TBH, although I think it was only 3/4 nights we stayed there, I wasn't overly impressed. One morning we tried to put dd's into the creche so that we could have a leisurely breakfast, only to be told by the two women there that they couldn't take our two as they had three babies to look after. FGS, that's one of the reasons we were paying all that money! Thought that was a damned cheek! That same morning, with two bored little girls, they completely forgot our breafast order. We waited an hour. And it was in the autumn, during term times, so by no means full. I think they've got their head too far up their own bottoms. And I remember having a conversation with a member of staff about a poor little spaniel who lived there, with no one main caretaker. Apparently it looks 'good' to have a dog in residence, but if you ask me a dog needs a primary caretaker/someone to call their own. Not impressed at all. Sorry to disappoint, but HTH. Also don't think the creche would have engaged our two long enough than it took to have breakfast, and the creche food looked rank (ours ate in the restaurant).

Oooh, sorry MM! Just wanted to add my opinion. I'm sure your FIL did a grand job!

Thanks Carla for the honest feedback. I knew I could rely on a Mumsnetter! I'll be having a rethink! Not paying load of money if its not worth it! Interested in anymore feedback from anyone.

Mmmm, well knowing my father in law??!
I did hear that once Annie Lennox and other big noise stay there a lot, perhaps they are a bit too much sucking up to them rather than concentrating on all their guests?
Not sure...

We've stayed there loads and always loved it. Don't want to gainsay carla, but I would recommend it from my experience. The creche isn't staffed until 10 in any case, so leisurely breakfasts aren't going to be much of an option usually. I've posted about it before, and there are several threads that would be worth looking at. Happy to answer any questions!

Went when ds1 was 12weeks old.. so nearly 4yrs ago. Had a lovely room, good service and food excellent. Baby listening service during the evening worked well for us although on one evening spent more time upstairs with ds than dh in the dining room. They did a great job with keeping my food warm, but not drying it out! Didnt really use the creche as was stressy 1st time mum and ds a bit young. It was a bit of a barn as far as I remember... good for older toddlers letting off steam. Enjoyed nice walks in the local area and lunches in local pubs. All in all a nice 3day break. Thought Fowey Hall in Cornwall was more plush and had more facilities... same group as Woolley, creche was cosier and well equipped and staffed. 5ppm food for the kids offered a great choice, best we've had from child friendly hotel kitchens and there is an indoor heated pool. However when we went the pool was closed for "parts replacement" and were peeved not to be offered some compensation as thats half the reason we chose that particular hotel in a very cold wet March 2003. Otherwise no complaints.

tamum. You just had a better stay than us!

They can be a bit erratic with service sometimes, I grant you!
