I often feel jealous of my brother, and the only thing I can do to curb it is not spend time in the same room as him and my mother.

I feel envious of people who can sing/play a musical instrument to a high standard. I am also jealous of those who are tall and willowy as I am short with massive tits.

As for how I deal with it, I remind myself that if I had practised I would be able to play a musical instrument (so own fault) and remind myself that looks aren't everything (in my mother's tone of voice!)

MerryAnnSinglemas · 08/12/2007 21:09

pinetreedog · 08/12/2007 21:18

I have house envy, a friend lives in the house of my dreams. I realise that if I lived there it would soon be a pigsty like this one though.

I feel jealous of people all the time.

I just try and not think about it and hope that one day I will be in a position not to be jealous of them.

expatinscotland · 08/12/2007 21:32

Absolutely!

All the time!

It always passes with me because I know everyone has their own problems in life no matter what.

I am jealous of best friend, who struggles to gain weight.

But she's jealous of my tits.

paulaplumpbottom · 08/12/2007 21:35

I am alaways jealous of really thin people who always seem to have time for the gym and have the willpower to starve themselves.

I get over it by reminding myself that they are hungry most of the time and probably have to spend alot of time obsessing over it.

I also remind myself that I'm curvy. I can't change that. Even when I was thin I was Curvy. I am very well groomed and always make an effort, so I shouldn't feel jealous really

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 08/12/2007 21:36

Yes. I feel envious loads!

To me, there is a difference between jealousy and envy.

Jealousy feels petty and spiteful and more about hating the person for having something you want and wanting the person to lose what they've got.

Envy feels like admiration, with a splash of wishing you also had what you admire, but not wanting them to lose anything they have, or resenting them in any way for having it.

So i think when a lot of people - yourself included - say they are jealous, what they actually mean is they are envious.

And that is fine, good, normal and can inspire you to achieve the same for yourself.

expatinscotland · 08/12/2007 21:40

no, ppb, a lot of those people are naturally thin.

i am. but so's my wallet!

k, i agree, there's a difference between jealousy and envy.

i envy peole with clear skin, too.

miobombino · 08/12/2007 22:39

Constance you are funny !

I'm thinnish but not as willowy as I used to be, (after 4 babies my stomach muscles aren't great) so I suppose I'm envious of anyone with a similar number of children, whose waistlines are youthful and un potbellied.

And I see a lot of them about !

Yes it's shallow, but hey ho.

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 08/12/2007 22:53

I am a seething pit of envy most of the time TBH
I am envious of ALL sorts of things

Maybe I'm not very nice
