Calling Lawyers - any jobs for NQ Solicitors going?

My friend who is a trainee solicitor has been told today by our boss (some may remember him (!)) that he can't keep her on when she qualifies in April. Does anyone know of any firms that would be willing to take a NQ Claimant PI lawyer????

I guess she has lookied in all the normal places - gazette? recruitment firms? DH got his current job a few years back through a recruitment agencies - which has worked out really well ever since for him.

Maybe she could write speculative letters, with her CV attached, to all the firms in her area.

IIs she keen to stay in the same area, or happy to move anywhere?

Does she definitely want to remain a PI lawyer? If she hasn't qualified yet, she can choose which area of law in which she wants to specialise (depending on job availability). She's limiting herself somewhat if she only looks at PI work simply because that was the last area she did on her rotation.

How are things at work for you, Jampot?

Freckle & Hula - thanks for your replies. Well she's only really done PI in her training contract (12 months paralegal gives her 6 months off training contract) and has done some commercial litigation (not much admittedly) and a little bit of employment. So strictly she doesn't know much else. Because she's not "been around" in the law very much she's not sure of the firms/agencies that she should approach. I have suggested your idea Hula that she write to everyone she can think of in the hope that someone is looking for a NQ lawyer. I suppose really the question is "any firms to avoid?"

Freckle - well I've started my office based crap role now which is just chasing clients for their signed CFAs (loads of backlog 'cos the fee earners have just sat on them) and other admin work. I do think its a matter of time before he lets quite a few go actually as he also has another 2 trainees he wont be able to offer jobs to and another paralegal who basically has fun all day. I think ultimately he will be left with best mate, sister in law, sister, and his mate the office manager. To be honest I dont feel like fighting any more I'll just sit it out and wait for him to make me redundant. But thank you so much for all your advice and support. It really is appreciated.
