Sore throat after a general anaesthetic...advise???

Wondered if anyone can help or advise me on what I can take for the pain, as the stuff I have isn't helping.

I had a general on Friday for a minor op. Ever since my throat has been incredibly sore, way more than last time I had a general. Every swallow is painful and it really hurts my ears too. The pain is there constantly but more intense as a Iswallow. A simple cough or clear of my throat s unthinkable, and I sneezed yesterday and the pain was awful.

I have the normal painkillers I was sent home from hospital with but they don't touch it. Throat lozenges ease it temporarily.

Any advice? Anyone else had this after a general - for so long and so painful? Any suggestions of what I can take to ease the pain?

I think so, you can ring the ward now to ask if you need to.

Diclofenac is fine with paracetamol as far as I know.

Yes, sure it is. They gave me paracetamol to bring home as well as these, so I beleive I can take both at same time. Did in hospital.

Still there this morning, although no only affecting one side of throat and one ear. Very very painful though.

Think I will have to give in and call the ward.

No one answering on ward. Have spoken to nurse on NHS Direct and she thinks it will be from the tube, and that I am doing everything possible to ease it but it could be another day or two until it is eases.

I think its prob linked to the tube they use Hulababy - from your description of the op, sounds as though you have endo? I too suffer from it and funnily enough, my last lap procedure really made my throat bad afterwards - i would still try and speak to the ward if its bad tomorrow though

the GP should also be able to prescribe a throat numbing spray.
