possession of more than is for personal use is illegal, but if you were pete doherty, that could mean mountains of the stuff!

mind you, he;s been in and out court, jail, rehab lots

HairyIrene · 23/11/2007 14:54

yes it is illegal to be in possession of illegal drugs
and you are right, it can only be their sleb status that stops them being banged up
i dont know why it makes a difference but it sure does

what amazed me the other night, i caught a short glimpse of wife swap, where the mother had put down 'smoking cannabis' as her and partners evening hobby..

why on gods grey earth would anyone admit to this on tv and yet, still, nothing happens to them...

i actually think it should all be legalised but the law as it stands should apply to all

good question
was she doing it that openly though?

HairyIrene · 23/11/2007 15:13

yp
possession is illegal
possession with intent to supply more serious

the authorities are at fault as they do not apply these laws equally to all

kate moss was interviewed by cops after her hoo-ha but that was it iirc

it does yp

my fav quote on this is by clive stafford smith referring to usa justice system

and i paraphrase..

'capital punishment, if you have the capital you dont get the punishment'

tiredemma · 23/11/2007 15:34

yes- taking drugs is not illegal- possesion is

StealthPolarBear · 23/11/2007 15:37

But surely you can't have one without the other, can you?
Or does that mean people can't be arrested for having taken drugs?

yeah i thought that as well
seems a funny distinction

tiredemma · 23/11/2007 15:47

No you cant get arrested for being stoned/high (unless you are say, driving a car for example) but you could be if you were stoned with a massive bag of skunk in your back pocket.

HairyIrene · 23/11/2007 15:50

it is more difficult for cops to prove spb, yp

LazyLinePainterJane · 23/11/2007 16:23

SPB, it means that you can't be arrested for taking drugs that maybe you got from a friend. I believe there is a minimum amount that counts as "possession" so you can get away with it if you simply have enough for personal use.

StealthPolarBear · 23/11/2007 16:28

well I never knew that

HairyIrene · 23/11/2007 18:01

llpj
if you are foolish enough to say a friend gave you it, your friend will be done for supplying

there is no minimum amount in law, possession is possession
unless you are famous of course...

there was policy in operation in brixton for a while to allow this to happen, i beleive it has been recinded now...

jellyjelly · 24/11/2007 22:16

This is one of the things that really bugs me that the likes of pete can go around and around getting caugh for drugs yet he never goes to prison, it bugs me that celebrities get away with this but normally people dont. I wish they would lock them all up, then they might leanr not to do things.

I also think it gives the worng example to teens who think that drugs are cool.
