I'm sure other mners who receive child benefits will also wish to join me in thanking the government for taking such good care of the information I supplied. So much for me doing my bit by shredding papers.

yes, makes you wonder why you bother! Heads should roll for this.

And don't you all feel so much safer about the ID card and national database......?

TheQueenOfQuotes · 20/11/2007 17:20

it's unbelievable really isn't it. DH works for TVL and works from home. ALL his paperwork that he has to send back to the office with regards to sales has to be sent registered post, and anything that doesn't get sent back has to be shredded/ripped/burnt - yet some idiot manages to lose 25 million records!!!

i;m pretty cross about it myself. but as i listen to the news i can't see why this is a 'government' problem. alistair darling may have had to make the announcement, but wasnt this the civil service who have messed up? and hasn;t the head of the dept resigned?

slightly off topic but when sorted eldest child passport, they lost mine and ex husbands passports and childs burth certificate

Still feel uneasy about now, someone is prob out there using our family's identities

I agree that the whole episode is a cock-up of monumental proportions however I fail to see how the mistake of a person/department means that the government is somehow culpable. I'm not a massive fan of the current government but I think this is an issue within the department rather than a governmental issue.

Doodledotoo - a database was downloaded onto a disk which was sent via some sort of internal mail service between buildings and got lost en route.
