Home insurers being awkward about me taking ex's name off policy

they won't take his name off home and contents policy at just my say so.
They said he needs to inform them, he wouldn't cross the street to wee on me if i was on fire, so he's not about to inform them in writing that he doesn't live here anymore.
We are joint policy holders and the direct debit comes out of MY bank account.

They also wont let me cancel the policy without his say so.

Am i being done??

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

Cancel the DD - confirm in writing along with cancellation of the policy, they will soon end your cover if not getting paid. Start new policy - don't forget the last bit thou'

I had the same problem - you may find that you have to pay for the whole year , as stated in the terms and conditions, do you pay by monthly instalments? Best to let this policy run until the end of the term and then to not renew. Yes they are trying it on a bit.

I found that this was the easiest thing to do withmost things - bt wouldn't let me change the phone to my name so I just canceled the telephone when the year contract was up and went to ntl. The tv licence eventually let me change as I said I didn't know why they had me down as MR not MRS and that they had the initials all wrong!

thanks so much ivy and gomez!

That is really useful info. I just felt like i was getting nowhere.
But it's reassuring to know others have had same probs and managed to sort them out!!

Breaking up is so hard, in so many ways i didn't expect!!
