DDs has been apple bobbing at nursery today and this question came up. Its probably really obvious but I can't think what it is called. You know the bottom bit - I said it was an apple bellybutton!

Though of course strictly speaking the bellybutton would be where the stalk goes into the apple. Therefore still no good name for the bottom - other than bottom!

Sorry off topic, but how did you get away with that nickname?! I was refused one that contained the word 'mumsnet'!

SweetFA · 07/11/2007 15:56

And I would have to say, in answer to your question, 'fundus'.

CountessDracula · 07/11/2007 15:59

bumhole?

snowleopard · 07/11/2007 16:00

We call it the "spider" if you mean the actual black bit in the middle of it. It came from DS. He says "don't eat the spider mummy!" with some alarm!

Tomatoes have a spider too but it's the bit on the top.

arse?

mishymoo · 07/11/2007 16:01

QoQ - you beat me to it! I was going to say that!

TheQueenOfQuotes · 07/11/2007 16:09

Calyx and stamen

here

SweetFA · 07/11/2007 16:09

Nooo, no no no...the bit on top of a tomato is definitely called a 'quee-quee'. Sorry.

EmsMum · 07/11/2007 16:18

Oh thanks QoQ - it was starting to bug me cos I knew there was a proper name. Not that the question has ever arisen in our house.

allmytimeonmumsnet · 07/11/2007 17:04

Calyx, Thank-you. We will look impressive tomorrow!

Sweet FA - I chose the name ages ago and just entered it. Nothing untoward happened so I stuck with it. Didn't even know there was a problem with some names.

Maybe it's the newfangled format!!

I tried something clever ending in 'mumsnet' and it refused to allow it!

I will be alright in a minute

uberalice · 07/11/2007 19:30

LOL. Only on mumsnet can a conversation like this take place.
