Lovely MN ladies please take a look at some things I've made & tell me what (if anything) you'd be prepared to pay for them.

I'm not quite ready to sell stuff yet but I would like to set up a shop on Etsy or MumzMall or similar to sell little crocheted things. I have some stuff on my blog & am working on a few other things (including little soft toys). Please take a look & tell me if you'd part with your hard-earned cash (& how much of it you'd be willing to part with) for;

the doll
the hairband/earwarmer/neckwarmer thingies (& if someone could come up with a decent name for these I'd be ever so grateful)
the belts
the corsages
the novelty bags (it's halloween ones that are on but I'm working on some Christmas ones just now)

dh isn't very encouraging - he says the stuff is nice enough but I'm not going to get people to pay for handmade stuff when they can just go to the shops & buy mass-produced stuff so cheaply

p.s. - I've posted this in chat too so apologies if anyone gets miffed that they keep seeing it but I know not everyone looks at chat

Hi Greebo

I love the belts and corsages and reckon you could make a mint off the corsages because they are going to be biiiiiiig this season and next.

Not really sure what I'd pay for them but I'm no good at that kind of thing.
Did you have a price in mind?

lemonaid · 07/11/2007 09:03

I'd buy the doll (not sure how much I'd pay) and possibly the corsages if they were relatively cheap, but probably not the other stuff.

Squiffy · 07/11/2007 09:12

I have bought similar dolls for my DD for £16 in South Africa, and there are similar for sale in our local baby designer shop for about £20 I think.

In the UK there is a range of stuff by designer Anne Claire Petit (see here) which could give you a good guage of prices. I have some of her toys and they are beautiful.

lemonaid · 07/11/2007 09:38

I really like the Anne Claire Petit stuff -- if you made more along those lines (the doll is a good start) then I'd snap them up. My credit card finger is already itching just from looking at that site .

Thanks folks

I was thinking about maybe £4 for the corsages, £5 for the hairbands & £6 for the belts plus postage at cost? I don't know if that's too much tho'. As for the bags & doll I have no idea as there's a fair bit of work in those - especially the doll who would also come with a matching corsage for her new owner to wear.

I showed my 14yo dd1 the belts yesterday & she's put in a request for a pink one with a white buckle for Christmas (along with a red hairband & a corsage lol) & 13yo dd2 wants them all in blue so easy stocking fillers for those two methinks.

They also both want dolls

Gosh greebo, I would have said a bit more!

Are you making anything on that?

Can I just ask you, how do you add links to other peoples blogs on your own blog IYSWIM?
Have just set mine up and want to stick yours on if thats ok?

belcantavinissima · 07/11/2007 09:54

ooh its all lovely, i reckon your prices you have in mind are spot on, maybe charge £12-£15 per doll?

paulaplumpbottom · 07/11/2007 09:59

I'd pay £20 for the doll. If larger I'd pay up to £40. The scarves and belts between £15 and £20. Not as keen on the halloween stuff so would probabaly pay less. I love the dolls and headbands. Have you though of doing scarves that are similar?

GreebosWhiskersIsCherryRed73 · 07/11/2007 11:17

paulaplumpbottom - I'm thinking of doing scarves & more 'grown-up' bags iyswim (the halloween ones were just party bags for the dcs & my neice & nephews). I have more of the yarn that I made the doll's scarf from & it has to be felt to be believed, it's so soft, fluffy & silky all at the same time plus it has all those gorgeous coloured threads in it. I made dd3 a little cravat-type scarf out of the black stuff & she loves it - will try to get dh to take some pics for me).

nbg - I wouldn't really be making anything on those prices - just getting my outlay back so I can buy more yarn without dh hitting the roof lol. I can't remember offhand how to link to other blogs but will take a look later & get back to you if that's okay (am off out with dd3 & ds to meet my auntie for lunch). I'd love to have a reciprocal link to your blog

Thanks again for your kind comments folks - will be back later.

Katz what a fab bag! I've had a look at the pattern & it seems fine so I'd be happy to give it a try. You can email me on [email protected].

nbg I've had a look at blogger & to add a link in a post there's a hyperlink button on the edit toolbar it looks a bit like a paperclip with a green circle behind it (maybe that's just my eyesight tho'). Just highlight the text you want to use as a link, click on the link button & a box will appear to type in the web address. If you want to add a list of fave blogs at the side go to your dashboard page & click on layout & there should be an option to add page elements. hth
