I always wash single duvets in my washing machine and assume it's ok. Otherwise I'd be at the launderette at least three times a week. The duvet I wash regularly is reasonably light. Can you weigh yours - bag it up and put it on the bathroom scales? My MIL washes a double duvet in her machine! I don't think that would even fit in mine.

our singles are 13.5 tog and say they need a 9kg machine. Thhey don't even fit in our 5kg machine
