Being the shortest is a nightmare and having to go through life as an adult fully grown at just under 4'10. I am now 38 years old and never managed 4'10. My mum is 5'4 and my dad is 5'6. My brother is 32 and he is 5'5 and my sister is 5'7 she is 34. My sister is well happy with her height as she is the tallest out of her friends. Whereas my brother is not so happy as his friends are mainly 6 foot. One of his friends is nasty and says to James I like being around you because you make me look taller. This friend us only an inch taller than him. I mean we didn't expect to be giants having these heights for parents. I really didn't expect to end up at my height barely 4'10. My mum had me checked out at age 10 as I was already 4 ins shorter than my friends. I remember my feet didn't even reach the floor when I was seated. My mum took me to get some tests done as to why I was so much shorter. It came back that I had crohns disease and that it can stunt your growth. I must have been about 4'6 aged 10 the tests came back that I might only reach between 4'8/4'10 that night I cried myself to sleep. I remember mum used to use a height chart and mark our 3 heights each time on our birthdays. Mine just wasn't going up like my siblings. There was nothing that could be done with my height. I just had to accept it. I remember my last year in primary my height was still way short and I had the embarrassment on sports day to go and join a class the year below. I was still the shortest. I was OK keeping up with them until it came to dunking a basketball. It took me 10 attempts with the classes all laughing at me then cheering when I dunked it. I had to get all my school uniform altered as it was too big for secondary school. My first day it was abut daunting as everyone seemed way taller. It didn't get any better from there I had to endure a yearly photo session with my classmates in our year. I was always the shortest and the oldest so with the girls I was the shortest in both photos. Then we had the boys together I was still the shortest. I still have the photos my position never changed. I had a Asian girl slightly taller and 2 boys they were twins I know their parents and judging by them being short is possibly their parents height as they were both short. My height didn't grow from the age of 14 I can still remember the teacher on photo day shouting out all our heights every year. It was like 4'7 4'8 4'9 then they would round it off from then onwards nearly 4'10 same old same old. If I answered a question in class I was shouted at to stand up even when I was standing. It was mostly boys who laughed when I said I was standing. I was struggling at school people being nasty. Out councillors at school helped alot as it turns out that as he was quite short 5'1 he got me to accept me for what I am. I also have 2 grandparents that are quite short both are nearly 5 foot. I ended up married to one of the 2 two twins at school. When we finished at school I was still 4'10 the twins Liam who ended up at 5 foot and the same with his twin Jay 5 foot as well. No taller than their parents. Now I never wanted to marry a tall man as it doesn't look right. To me and Jay it just sits fight on fact we also went to prom and my shoes had 3 in heels and I was exactly Jay's height. It must have been the only time I have looked in a man's eyes. We married when we were 22 the photos were great short people at the front and tall at the back. I was wearing heels so was still Jay's height. We have a son who is 14 and OK we knew our children could be short but never mind. Our son Nevin is 14 and always been shorter than his friends up to now he is just under 5 foot. His friends are all over 5'6. He accepts he may not get much taller I hope his can grow a little more. On the other hand our daughter Lucy takes more from me she as crohns disease and her height is stunted. She is 12 and in secondary school sadly she is shorter than me at 4'8 she as been tested and she may not grow anymore from her bone structure. I do feel for her and we hope she can get to at least my height. Now what I didn't know was that when you reach 40 you can start to shrink as I have noticed my both my grandparents are in their 70,s and they are both now my height so after over 30 years they have lost 2 ins or a bit more. Apparently when you are short you can lose more than a taller person. I suppose more noticeable. I really wouldn't like to lose 2 or 3 ins i mean I wouldn't be able reach anything. My grandparents have had their cupboards lowered and shelves dropped lower. I did the same with a height chart for my children I just like to know their heights. Has for our home Jay is a carpenter and he made our kitchen accessible for us so we can all reach what we want. Things have changed I feel that for my 2 children it shouldn't be like how I had it. Both have really good friends and are looked out by people. So to me it is nice that we are all comfortable in our skin is because we are all similar. It is just different outside for us.
That's my story
