Wedding reading (not too cheesy)

I know I'm leaving this really late, but we've just seen the mayor to talk about our wedding. The ceremony will be about 10 mins so I thought I'd get someone to give a reading, but I don't want to ask them to choose something as well at such short notice.

Preferably need something that will translate into Spanish (but if its a poem we could just translate the gist of it - there are only 3 guests that don't speak much English).

Anyone have any ideas?

Sorry, and a gorgeous bride!

Heard this at a wedding - it was great.

Extract from The Velveteen Rabbit, by Margery Williams

?What is REAL?? asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. ?Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle??

?Real isn?t how your made,? said the Skin Horse. ?It?s a thing that happens to you. When someone loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.?

?Does it hurt?? asked the Rabbit.

?Sometimes,? said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. ?When you are Real you don?t mind being hurt.?

?Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,? he asked, ?or bit by bit??

?It doesn?t happen all at once,? said the Skin Horse. ?You become. It takes a long time. That?s why it doesn?t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out, and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don?t matter at all, because once you are Real, you can?t be ugly, except to people who don?t understand.?

?I suppose you are real?? asked the Rabbit. And then he wished he had not said it, for he thought the Skin Horse might be sensitive. But the Skin Horse only smiled.

?Someone made me Real,? he said. ?That was a great many years ago; but once you are Real you can?t become unreal again. It lasts for always.?

what an idiot I am - just realised wedding was today - and the pictures are BEAUTIFUL - congrats

SenoraPostrophe · 03/11/2004 19:52

apparently i look younger than I am, www. (not actually old enough to have ever worried about it though). And dp - sorry, dh - has always looked about 16 when shaved, so he shows up to meetings etc with stubble - what can you do?

Feeling a bit "outed" now, but there are worse pics I could have shared with the world!

Am I rambling?

can you tell that i have no clue what day of the week it is - apologies - perhaps I should change my name to "sleep deprived"

hope you had a fabulous honeymoon

SenoraPostrophe · 03/11/2004 20:04

lol! Honeymoon will be next year when ds stops waking up at night. Actually he has mostly stopped, but all our family etc were here - seemed silly to go away.

Very sweet reading btw.

you have brought tears to the eyes of a grumpy old dentist.
I am glad marriage can still be a joyous affair.
Congratulations x
