Ladymuck, MIL (who is so sweet but always gets odd presents) bought my dd a weather station for the garden.

She once bought me a tea light holder that looks like a killer sperm! She once bought one of her other sons a bag of antique door hinges!

Enid · 21/10/2004 12:30

lol.

A friend of dh's bought dd1 an adult sized space hopper for her first birthday

edam · 21/10/2004 12:33

my dad brought back a prison vest from Alcatraz, adult size XL, for ds. Who was 14 mos....

womba1 · 21/10/2004 12:33

My sil's best friend bought my niece a padded bra and knicker set for her 3rd Birthday! Plus a body glitter set with nail varnish and bright red lipstick!!
Why do some people insist on little girls being treated like little women? They grow up fast enough as it is!

MarmaladeSun · 21/10/2004 12:35

Countess - rofl at yours!

northstar · 21/10/2004 12:44

A huge chocolate teddy bear for ds 1st birthday - guess who had to eat it

nasa · 21/10/2004 12:45

these are brilliant none so good (bad) as this but MIL/FIL are always buying DS (3yrs) presents for 10 year olds and then look disappointed that he has no idea what to do with it. He did get a remote control car when he was born from one of DPs friends.

nasa (formerly krocket)

handbagaddiction · 21/10/2004 12:49

A Santa's Little Helper 1st Christmas babygro costume thingy.....which was given to us in early February!! What makes it worse is that they knew well in advance that we wouldn't be seeing them over the Christmas holidays!

Chuffed · 21/10/2004 12:50

dd only 6mths so no funny pressies yet but when I was about 14 my sister and I got a really funny gift from our Aunty, one coloured anklet stocking, I got a red one and she got a yellow one, we assume the other nieces got the other ones.

hmb · 21/10/2004 12:56

Like the name nasa, why the change?

muddaofsuburbia · 21/10/2004 13:01

MIL gave dh a can of WD40 for his xmas a couple of years ago. I think he got batteries too.

Arabica · 21/10/2004 13:17

My mum (who is comfortably off) told music-mad DS, then 2yrs 9months and obsessed with electric guitars, that she'd bought a real guitar for him to use at her house. He got all excited, expecting something he could plug into an amp. When we arrived at her place he found a piece of vaguely guitar-shaped, plywood, which had quite large splinters on it, no strings and with a fretboard that was falling off. It still had the price on it, 25p from the charity shop!

lou33 · 21/10/2004 13:19

A black stone hippo for my dd who was about 5 at the time.

nasa · 21/10/2004 13:27

hmb - I want to be called rocket but it's been taken (never seen a rocket here though) so nasa was the closest I could come up with !

My dad did buy dd then 2.5 one of those china headed dolls. He'd been to Russia and was so proud to have bartered for it. It is a) not especially attractive and b)somewhat inappropriate and non pc with real fur trim, glitzy ribbon, pins etc. She lives on top of her wardrobe but occasionally gets found.

Furball · 21/10/2004 13:30

For DS' first christmas MIL bought him some fleecy lined combat trousers aged 36 months and said he'll grow into them, he did this summer, but couldn't wear them as it was too hot.

hmb · 21/10/2004 13:32

Lisz, my mum would have wanted my dd just to look at the doll! She once bought dd (then about 18 months/2 years) a doll. She was very cross that dd took the dolls clothes off! What??? I could see the same thing happeneinf with one of those china dools which are more orniments than anthing else, I think!

hmb · 21/10/2004 13:33

Yes, nasa is cool. could have apollo next!

WigWamBam · 21/10/2004 13:59

I've just remembered what my husband's aunt bought me for Christmas the first year we were together. You won't believe me but I swear it's the truth.

A pocket pack of 10 paper hankies.

lou33 · 21/10/2004 14:54

a punctured football

pixel · 21/10/2004 20:02

My dad bought for my dd aged 6 an 834 piece 3D puzzle in the shape of a chateau with it's own lighting system. The year before he bought a huge scooter that weighed twice as much as she did!

My sister always buys cuddly toys. I have just given two black sacks full to a jumble sale and we are still knee-deep in the things!
