Sky Tv, do you need the phone line?

We have sky tv and the phone line was connected to the back of the box when it was installed and has always been connected to our phone line.
Unfortunately our little box for the phone line is not in the living room it's in another room off the hall so the phone line goes all the way round the living room and out into the hall where it connects to an extention that connects to the box, are you still with me?

anyway to get to the point, tonight the land line phone wouldn't work and I finally figured out that if I disconnected the sky phone line little extention box thingy and just plugged the phone into the phone line it worked perfectly, great our land line is now working again.

But do I need to keep the sky box phone line connected? and if so for what reason? And will it cause any problems if I have the sky phone line disconnected?

ours isnt connected to the phone line, was when we first had it but then we got rid of the phone line.

i thought you did need a phone line.

You only have to have it plugged into the phone line for 12 months to get your warranty. TBH - we had the same problem as you so we just unplugged sky from the phone box and just plugged it back in when we needed to call them out for repair. Your contract states only 12 months so after that you can take the whole damn thing out (like we have!) It made our phone line buzz all the time.

You have to have it connected for twelve months from the start of your contract. After that it is up to you. If you order Box office films you'll need to be connected to do that.

well, we've had it for over a year now, in fact I think we've had it for 2 years now and we never order box office films so I'll just leave it unplugged.

we have ordered films and also the wrestling that you have to pay for. We just rang sky and they turned it on. Havent had our phone line connected for about 5 years
