Phobia of hiccups - anyone else?!

Hi all. This is a weird one. Since as young as I can remember I have an intense dislike/phobia of other people having hiccups. When I was young if any of my family got the hiccups I would have to leave the room/dinner table etc and go eat alone! My mum used to get cross with me in the beginning until she could see how much it affected me. I now have a 2 year old and thought as he's my baby there's no way him having hiccups could affect me, surely?! But they do. When he (or anyone else still!) gets them my stomach goes all funny, chest goes tight, feel panicky, stressed, sick, upset etc etc! Does anyone else suffer with this? I'm going to have to get help somehow!! It's ridiculous. And people think it's funny, or call it an irrational fear which infuriates me! Thank you!

Hey, I don't have any experience with this myself but if it helps at all my tiny, tiny bit of knowledge about phobias is that there's absolutely nothing wrong with you. You're just freaking out at your thinking about hiccups, it's nothing to do with the noise or the act of the hiccup. What you're experiencing is just coming from your thoughts, perhaps something subconscious? You don't need to delve deep into your childhood with therapy to discover the root ect., I mean you can but it's not necessary. It sounds really obvious and simple but personally I think the best things are Smile

However if you're still struggling I've had some training in NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and there is such a thing as a 'fast phobia cure' that I could go through with you? (no charge) Just let me know.
