I'm feeling shaky and sore after falling downstairs this morning........

while holding DS3. 6.10 this morning DS3 woke up - I woke up feeling fabulous - it was quite "late" for him to get up. Picked him up - got to the stairs, went down the first step and then slipped - went backward, and went down the entire flight of stairs like I was on a sled......except there was no sled underneath me so I've got a friction burn on one elbow, took some skin off the other one, and the entire back of my body feelings like I've done a round with Mike Tyson.

Thankfully instinct kicked in and my main concern was making sure DS3 was ok, I had him on my shoulder and just held him tight with both hands - but of course that meant I had no way of stopping myself, or "limiting" damage to myself. He was quite shocked (not suprising really it was rather a bumpy ride) and cried for about 30 seconds - but he's ok.

I'm still feeling shaky thinking "what if" (I'd fallen forwards/dropped him etc etc) and sore

But you didn't drop him and he is fine. So make sure you are OK too. Anyone around who can help you today?

VooJu · 13/10/2007 10:57

aw how horrible for you. That shaky 'what if?' feeling might stay with you for a few hours. Is your Dp at home? You have had a mighty shock

It's terrifying when you fall with a baby, isn't it- so hard to stop thinking about what miht have happened. Hope you feel better soon.

I think I'm ok - haven't looked in the mirror to see how bruised I am - but apart from feeling rather achy and bruised I'm "functioning" normally. DH is at home and he does most of the childcare at the weekends anyhow.

I think we've got some arnica at the back of the cupboard somewhere - will hunt it out.

i did this on holiday a couple of weeks ago with ds. i burst into tears at random times for a couple of days, thinking what if, so you might feel like this for a few days, but try to concentrate on the bit where he's fine. ds was perfectly fine as well, not a mark on him, did have him checked by doc just to be sure.

i used some arnica tablets to help heal the bruising. if anything is swollen, joints etc, best to get yourself checked out.

hope you feel better soon

TheQueenOfQuotes · 13/10/2007 11:26

well I've just checked in the mirror and so far I just have one small bruise on my bottom (which hit the deck first) - then the friction burns/skin off on my elbows and 2 small friction burns on the back of my ankles.

Of course it doesn't help that the carpet on our stairs isn't AT ALL soft, infact it's very old and hard and scratchy - so it made the ride even harder. Otherwise it's just general aches all over the back of me - my weight was quite evenly distributed.

elbows still sore, and aching all over - but otherwise fine. Stopped shaking now.

Oh, poor you. I've fallen downstairs a few times so sympathise. Fortunately never when holding ds - am paranoid about it so always hold onto the bannister like an elderly lady!

TheQueenOfQuotes · 14/10/2007 11:49

no visible bruises anywhere except for a small one on my right calf - but still feel bruised and battered......I took about 5 minutes to walk downstairs with him this morning as I was paranoid about it happening again - especially as I'm starting to feel stiff now.

Budababe · 14/10/2007 11:53

Poor you QoQ.

I did something similar a few years ago while holding DS - stepped into a basket of iron left on bottom step. Twisted to avoid landing on DS and hit my head on a cupboard. Ended up with 5 stitches.

Was in shock for a few days.

lilospell · 14/10/2007 11:58

Ouch, poor you. HOpe you found the arnica, will def make a difference.
Allow yourself to be well and truly pampered today.
