Right DS will be called Max - Maximilion on Birth Certificate on DPs insistance - but we are disagreeing over middle names.

Need lots of ideas - last name is boring, one syllable and really common - next to Smith I think the most common in the UK!!

Girl I know named her dd after 2 places her and her dh both loved - Siena Alabama.

doziduck · 19/10/2004 22:39

ds2 has spike for his middle name because of his hair!

sweetkitty · 19/10/2004 23:26

Would you not have DP's name as a middle name? Or doesn't it go? If we ever have a boy we are having DP's middle name by then David will be quite exotic.

Aero · 20/10/2004 00:06

How about Benedict? Now there's an old one.

Debbiethemum · 20/10/2004 00:16

I like middle names, both of ours have two each, Ds is after my father & dh's family name. Dd is a very simple name (to go with a very fancy first name) and the other after one of her godmothers.

My Dad has always joked that they were too poor to afford a middle name, which I found tragic as a child - and still find very sad!

Debbiethemum · 20/10/2004 00:17

I love Benedict as a name, however my nephew is Benjy so couldn't use it as we couldn't duplicate the short.

hill · 20/10/2004 13:34

Max Lancelot?

Bunglie · 20/10/2004 14:03

I always liked Trevallian, but don't know how you spell it???

tallulah · 20/10/2004 18:27

Trevelyan. It's my Uncle's middle name. (he chose it himself )

posyhairdresser · 20/10/2004 18:38

Velocity

Twinkie · 21/10/2004 09:38

DPs heros would be Thierry and Robert (of the Henry and Pires I think)!!

Think we have settled on Lucas although I still think Franklyn sounds ok?? - guesss we will decide when we have to or something comes along that really takes us.

Thanks all.

twinkie you have to use franklyn, because there is a reason for it and you can say to him "we chose franklyn because..." and tell him the story and he will really feel connected with his family.

use both if you like (Maximilian Franklyn Lucas Clark/White/Brown sounds rather fab) but don't drop the Franklyn!

Twinkie · 21/10/2004 09:49

Oh now am confused I do like Franklyn and yes there is the connection and Coddy F Off I love Franklyn the turtle - he is the bestest cartoon on at the moment DD and I watch it each morning before peeling ourselves out of bed!!

Davros · 21/10/2004 14:43

I agree, don't drop Franklyn because of interesting reason for choosing it. Also know someone I don't like who has a Lucas

I vote for family names. They have real meaning when he is old enough to understand them. My dd has me great great grandmother's name for a first name and my dearly beloved granny's name for a middle name. These were bothe great people and when dd is old enough I will explain to her what a wonderful name she has.

And, I also like family last names for a middle name. My middle name is my mum's mum's maiden name.

Uwila · 21/10/2004 15:17

What about using your maiden name for a middle name?

Davros · 21/10/2004 17:17

Depends on your maiden name! Don't larf, I've got paternal grandmother's name as middle name.... Chadwick!!! Har har. My maiden name was Lindsay so that's DD's middle name.

codswallop · 21/10/2004 19:09

I vote against dead peoples names.

AND I vote aginst turtle names - for that reason I wouldnt use donatello for eg.!

My dsses middle names are Thomas, edward and Richard, if htat helps.
any dd was going to be Anna and coulcnt find amiddle name that went witht hat

My dad has no middle name and always wanted one so we are " giving " him one for his 70th birthday nest week

DelGirl · 21/10/2004 19:12

If I have a boy it's middle names will be James Michael and if it's a girl it will be Diana (dh's late mum's middle name)

Gem13 · 21/10/2004 20:32

Ours have place names for their middle names. Places we have been to and really liked.

All foreign so no dodgy English ones.

DH says he is going to pack the children off at 18 and tell them to go and see what they are like. I hope we get to return to them before then!

Aero · 21/10/2004 20:46

My neice has a place as a middle name. It took 5 years for my SIL to gather the courage to tell her mum! It's Arizona! She has a fairly normal/ordinary though pretty first name but my brother reckoned that if she ever became a pop star, she'd thank him in the long run!!

TwoIfBySea · 21/10/2004 21:46

Ds twins have two middle names, just to be greedy!

Ds twin 1 has Robert (my dad's name) then my maiden name which is very rare. (I would be chuffed if they decide to use that as their surname later on!)

Ds twin 2. Well, I wanted DH's name and should have stuck to that, but we ended up with William which is his dad's name but as FIL is a tosser I will say it is after my great-Grandfather on both sides! He then also has my maiden name.

If I ever had a daughter I would use Maia instead of my mum's name May and again, any more children and they will be getting lumbered with two middle names also! (My mum has 4 middle names thanks to family politics!)

onlyjoking9329 · 21/10/2004 22:27

my son has Joel as a middle name, and we love it

Twinkie · 22/10/2004 13:24

FFS Coddy he is 70 - give him something a little more expensive!!!
