anyone else live there that can give me some insight. Idea is to at least halve our mortgage and then hubby can commute to Old Street but he's thinks I'll have to give up my west end job as we'll both never see the kids. Anyone work locally there or from home? I grew up in Bucks so know the area a little bit and love shopping in Watford!

Don't really know it but is it really that much cheaper than London - especially when you add in additional commuting costs?

It's still a very expensive area for housing

I used to live in Rickmansworth many years ago and commute to South Kensington which was a PITA. The met line is not the most reliable and unless you work pretty close to Baker Street commuting will be difficult. It used to take me nearly a couple of hours each day to get to South Ken because the circle line was always up the spout.

Why have you chosen Rickmansworth?

From the research I've done I think its def. cheaper than London - we'll be able to have a much smaller mortgage, kids will get to go to decent schools and I won't have to work in London as we'd be able to afford me to have a lower salary. Have chosen it because the commute isn't too bad from there and we'll be nearish to some of my family but not too close!
