I support the football team that my family have always supported, and that I was taken to see loads as a kid, but I have never lived there as my parents moved away before I was born. I would love my kids to support them too (dh would disagree!) but can also see the argument for them supporting the local team as they are the team that they would be able to see more of.
So, why do you support the team that you do?

we live in the heart of arsenal territory, yet ds wavers between supporting arsenal and chelsea. I've told him he can't go out in his chelsea shirt round here though! We have family connections with spurs but he hasn't shown much interest

Yorkiegirl! I'm a Leeds fan too, despite never having lived further north than Coventry, and despite their sad history of late. I inherited them from my dad. We had little else in common so watching Leeds on telly was one of our few shared pleasures (depending how well they were playing).

oldham athletic household - becuase we come from oldham. most in oldham support manc united ( we have to spit its the law in our house if you mention their name) which i think is a bit rubbish -i think you shoud support the town you come from. so we moved south and still support them - however 14yo son started new school and suddenly wanted to support chelsea so i said " son if you can tell me where chelsea is on this map - you can support them with my blessings, if not you support brighton or oldham or nowt" he couldnt tell me where in england chelsea was so he still supports oldham - but instead of trying to fit in - now he is proud of his accent, home town and football team, wheich i think is great

I'm from Birmingham so support Birmingham City but my brothers support Aston Villa. I decided to support the Blues because I wanted to be different - trust me to pick the weaker side! Mind you, these days, The Blues are holding their own in the Premiership - we just need to start winning competitions like the FA Cup or heaven forbid, the Premiership title !

Come on you Blues!

We support AFC Wimbledon. That's the new team, not Wimbledon FC who moved to Milton Keynes and renamed themselves Milton Dons (or The Franchise as they are known amongst AFC supporters).

Our son (5) supports AFC Wimbledon as well although he is showing worrying, very worrying tendencies to quite like Man U.

Depends what sport. Born in Wolverhampton, support Wolves in football, brought up in Dudley so therefore follow Worcestershire in cricket (Dudley was Worcs before West Midlands was invented) and also in Rugby I follow Worcester Warriors. The rugby is more important to me than the football at the moment because I know I can take DD1 to it with out fear of her getting hurt or learning words a four year old shouldn't be using. And she love going to watch rugby as well!

I inherited West Brom from the family though I am now an ex-pat Brummie. Not sure whether to inflict this particular cross to bear on the kids, though. If there is no family connection then it should be local. Our nearest team is in the conference, or in the League would be Luton. Could take DD1 to both in safety and without need of second mortgage, could live with them adopting Arsenal as nearest Premiership side- adoption of Chelsea on Man U would be very distressing.

BigGayDad and Lesle. Be seing you next season I daresay!!!

HappyDaddy · 14/03/2005 06:55

My family is from Essex and East London and are traditionally Arsenal supporters. So, naturally, I'm a Liverpool supporter! I "chose" them when very young and have been unwavering ever since. It's a cross I have to bear...

Am a Tottenham fan only cos i just started watching them when i got into football, should prob have been a chelsea or fulham fan as those were my nearest teams geographically when i was growing up

I have supported Chelsea for the past 20+ years - so before we got the new regime in - not sure about off the pitch - but on the pitch am quite happy with this season
